Not sure if serious

quote:

Netflix exec Ted Sarandos says people worldwide love Sandler's movies and watch them again and again, something the company can certainly track with its data and ratings systems. All jokes aside, it could be a good fit -- Sandler has hits from Hotel Transylvania to Grown Ups to The Waterboy, and has executive produced big movies for others.

Other articles are saying this is a sign of the beginning of the end for movies in theaters. I doubt that's true, but this is an interesting move on Sandler's part.

I had given up on Sandler, but "That's My Boy" was incredible.

Per wikipedia:

Transylvania Budget - $85 million
Transylvania Box Office - $358 million

Grown Ups Budget - $80 million
Grown Ups Box Office - $271 million

Water Boy Budget - $23 million
Water Boy Box Office - $186 million

May not be great movies, but they were all financial hits at the box office.

I'll watch
Outside of the real blockbusters that you can't get the quality of picture and sound experience some of the washed up actors will be flocking to Netflix

So like Adam Sandler is trapped on an island, and like falls in love with a pineapple or something.

This will actually be an interesting fight where the theaters may do themselves more harm than good. NetFlix is getting the new Crouching Tiger movie and the major theater chains are refusing to show it. Supposedly a similar protest got Tower Heist as a $60 PPV simultaneous release with theaters pulled, but no way NetFlix is backing down.

I doubt that's true

Theaters exist for datenight for adults and nighttime daycare for teens. I don't see that need going away anytime soon, but I could see things getting bad enough that fewer theaters exist.

Date night could be at home. The popcorn is cheaper and it saves gasoline.

If you're just starting to date neutral territory is good, and if you're an old married couple, sometimes you need to get out of the house. It will remain a date night staple precisely because it isn't home. Again, I can see a decline in theaters, just not their death.

I don't get the Sandler hate. I like many of his movies for mindless, adolescent humor. Big Daddy, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Airheads, The Wedding Singer, etc. Punch Drunk Love is one of my favorite movies and he was great in it.

His roles did get tiresome, so maybe that's the hate.

Sandler has made some really shitty movies lately, but I am really looking forward to Pixels.

quote:

In the high-concept sci-fi action comedy Pixels, aliens misinterpret satellite feeds of classic arcade video games such as Space Invaders and Centipede as a declaration of war and launch an attack on earth using the same eight-bit characters and strategies.

In the Chris Columbus-directed film, the U.S. president (Kevin James) recruits his childhood friends to help save the country. Back in 1982, his three buddies were arcade prodigies, but cut to the present day: “They’re really three losers,” laughs Columbus. They’ve ended up a TV mechanic (Adam Sandler), a felon (Peter Dinklage), and a conspiracy theorist (Frozen‘s Josh Gad). But, they’re still the best guys for the job, and after teaming up with a more up-to-date weapons expert (True Detective‘s Michelle Monaghan), they have no choice but to be ready for battle.
