Pelicans Watchability

Pelicans > Rockettes

2014-15 projected record: 46-36, No. 8 seed in Western Conference playoffs

What's new? Omer Asik gives the Pelicans a true center and defensive anchor and should solve chemistry issues while helping Davis down low. They also added rookie Russ Smith in a draft-day trade to be their backup point guard and grabbed veteran John Salmons for depth at small forward.

How good will they be? It's tough to say. Davis seems primed for the big leap this season, but point guard Jrue Holiday and sixth man Ryan Anderson are coming off injuries. But only a handful of teams can match the talent in New Orleans, and this could be the breakthrough playoff year.

What's the goal? Everything centers on Davis, starting with the jobs of coach Monty Williams and general manager Dell Demps. Davis, whose skills allow him to be accommodating is the only one guaranteed to stick, and all others must prove they can work with him. And do it fast: Owner Tom Benson expects to win, soon.

WHY YOU CAN'T MISS THEM

The future of basketball? Davis announced himself as a superstar-in-the-making in the 2012 NCAA championship game for Kentucky, when he dominated the entire game despite finishing 1-for-10 with six points. He does it all, and his Team USA performance this summer showed that again. Players with Davis' size, athleticism, versatility and sense for the court come along once in a generation, and he's primed for a huge season.

Yeah the Pelicans definitely have better players than the rockets. The only point of true disparity between positions would be at small forward. James harden is better than gordon, but we have more depth at shooting guard.
