SF is just yikes...although I'm sure Evans will be playing there heavily...if Captain Monty allows it

Some tweets from the past 2 days of practice:

John Reid @JohnReid64

Pelicans coach Monty Williams said Jrue Holiday has looked good so far in training camp, in shape and showing ability to maneuver.

Pelicans' Monty Williams said they are still not sure who will start at SF -John Salmons, Darius Miller and Luke Babbitt are competing.

Pelicans shooting guard Eric Gordon has been impressive in camp so far, according to Coach Monty Williams and some of his teammates.

I'm not sure what's more interesting there, the SF battle that doesn't include Tyreke (not included only because of injury?) or the team talking up Gordon not in the context of trade rumors.

I'm watching Pels swingman Tyreke Evans work on his refined shooting stroke & he's made at least 7 of 10 3s from each spot. Not bad.

Pelicans G Austin Rivers said they had most physical practice of camp. He and Eric Gordon really got after it.

Pelicans coach Monty Williams said he wants to play Austin Rivers more off the ball this season to take advantage of his scoring ability.

Austin Rivers appeared excited to speak after the morning session ended.

He had plenty to say, but mostly emphasized how physical they played during a scrimmage.

...''You can ask coach about me and Eric today, we got really physical,'' Rivers said. ''He was grabbing my jersey and I was pushing him. He was pushing me. One time I went to the basket and he shoved me in the back and I fell on the ground and I came back and I was holding his jersey and he couldn’t even get the ball.

''It was really a good practice and I’m banged up - I’ve got ice. I told Eric I’m not playing against him anymore.''

Considering one of Gordon's negatives is that he doesn't like to get physical, this is a good sign I think.

quote:

For the first time since he was acquired in a trade from the Los Angeles Clippers in 2011, he’s competing in camp without any health issues.

He’s back attacking the basket with a quick first step, making jump shots and playing with an edge.

...''Eric is Eric, he’s explosive,'' Williams said. ''He’s been attacking the basket a lot in camp. ''Usually in camp you know, we foul more than a bird sanctuary. There’s a lot of hitting, grabbing and scratching going on, so you can’t see everything that he can do. But he looks like Eric now. I think the time off really allowed him to heal. He’s been really good in camp.''

...''I feel strong and I lifted more than normal to keep me away from injury,’’ Gordon said.''It’s a more comfortable feeling. When you rehabbing you are worrying about your injuries a lot before you even get on the floor. Now all I’m worrying about is getting a good rhythm, playing with the guys and seeing what we can do this year.''

Reid also had a flap worthy tweet

There's something different about this group of Pelicans players - they appear more driven. Haven't seen it like this since the 2007-08 camp

don't think so... unless NBATV picks up a game or 2

neither CST nor FSNOLA has ever shown a Hornets/Pelicans preseason game and the team website is not showing any games being televised

I predict Danman has 1 positive comment towards EG this year.

It will be something like:

"I'm glad EG finally got the sand out and went off in that playoff game for us but I still hope we trade his arse before the next game"
