I just don't understand why interview quotas are a good thing. If anything, it makes things worse by getting unqualified applicants interviews they can't possibly succeed at.

I'm uncomfortable with looking at the managers in the Football League only by their race, if anything this interview quota is a direct step backwards.

Although not as much as in American sports, but there are a large group of black players, and black English players. It raises a flag for me if there is not close to proportional white players to manager and black players to manager. Very rarely are their managers (like Jose) who didn't play before they became managers. Although I don't agree that it should automatically give a black candidate the job, but it should at least help level the playing field until the culture of not hiring minorities is changed.

He's had 7 and only completed two seasons in charge (his first job he lasted the season, but was demoted halfway through, so that doesn't count).

I am generally anti-quota on a lot of things, and my point I'm about to make is more based on America than England, but regardless:

Black people in our country have been playing catch up for a while because of the limitations and consequences of slavery and post slavery Civil Rights struggles. If we can help that just a little bit by getting them in for job interviews, I think it's a good idea.

If the trade off is a few "unqualified" managers get an interview while other qualified candidates do get interviews, as opposed to a few qualified managers NOT getting interviews, I'm okay with that tradeoff. It doesn't need to be a permanent thing necessarily, but there's still ground to cover, at least in America.
