Wii U sales beat PS4 in Japan, and elsewhere

Once again Nintendo is showing some fight by selling more Wii U's than Ps4's

I Think all my Wii U brothers in arms are aware we have lost the fight of this generation, but not the war! Nintendo has sold enough units and made enough good games it can take its time and make a comeback via its next console. Nintendo is a lot of things, but it isn't SEGA.
Watch your backs Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo isn't done yet.

SuperSmash Bros on 3DS was Japan's top selling game as well beating out Destiny, so yeah.
Japan is ALL about handhelds, their console market is shite now.

I feel like Nintendo loyalists have been saying this since the N64.
I know because I was one of those giddy at the promise of the GameCube in terms to retaking the lead.

I thought the GameCube and its game library was the best of its generation, regardless of sales, heck it might be my favorite Nintendo console ever.

We have Super Smash Bros Melee, Mario Kart Double Dash, Super Mario Sunshine, Pikmin, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Paper Mario, Pokémon Coliseum, Resident Evil, Mario Party, Luigi's Mansion, Sonic Adventure 2:Battle.
And those are just the most popular ones. I LOVED the gamecube.

Wii u is great for those of us that have an hour or 30 min here and there to play. Also for the pc master race members as well. Nintendo fricked up the marketing for the wii u

I'm the same. I know it gets grief for the controller and the mini-discs, but I definitely got my money's worth out of it. Have been playing Twin Snakes on it the past couple of nights and plan on another Twilight Princess playthrough after that.

Gamecube still made a profit so even though it wasnt tops in sales its not the failure the lazy gaming press makes it out to be.

I know people love the console war narrative, but I really hate it.
It's best for everyone if everyone wins. It's best for everyone that Nintendo makes consoles and games, yes this goes for people who don't even have Nintendo systems. And it's best for everyone if someone is making a Splatoon and someone is making a Bloodborne and a Sunset Overdrive.
The Wii U's disaster is more a marketing one than anything else, at least early on. It's a fine console. It's going to age well, and by the end, it's going to have the best exclusive library out of any current gen console, and seriously lack in 3rd parties again.
As someone who's owned at least console from each major manufacturer, the problems aren't the consoles or the console companies, it is:
1. Third Parties and their epically dumb decisions
2. The Video Game Journalism Industry
3. Video Game retailers (exclusive DLC, extras, etc. can all go die in a fire.)
They love stoking the "war" for no reason than to provoke.
A plague on all their houses.

Pissed me off that madden, NBA 2k and WWE 2k arent coming ouy on wiiU so i sold that shite and got the Bone.

You can thank EA's dumb Wii Sports games for that. It's going to be a long time before they get consistent proper releases.

Well yeah.
That's the story of pretty much all Nintendo consoles. They don't light the world on fire on sales but on most of them Nintendo doesn't take a loss on hardware sales like Sony and Microsoft so they stay afloat.
GameCube did get some of the 3rd parties back, and they rode the wave into a new niche for the Wii, but the WiiU has been a big speed bump for all that.

But it is. It's selling terribly in every region. Selling less terribly than how the PS4 is doing in Japan isn't an accomplishment.
Now, after the PS4 has had its own price cuts, bundles, and big software and it's still selling below Wii U? Then console gaming is completely dead, because neither console would even get half of what the PS3 did (let alone Wii, Ps2, or PS1).

What makes you say this? It's not selling better than the 3DS, but it was never expected to. It's doing admirably and still has a lot of regional support behind it.
