I was born in Macon, GA. When I was only 4, my family and I moved to Hawaii (my dad got a job there). I grew up bleeding purple and gold. LSU football, baseball, and basketball was a major part of my childhood. My dad and I flew out to both the national championship games in 2003 and 2007. I'll never forget how much fun it was, but I had never been to a football game in Death Valley. Come 2009, my family moved to New Orleans. I finished up my highschool at John Curtis. During the 2009 season I decided that my first game would be vs Florida. I had fun walking around campus and going to gameday with my dad. Come gametime I didn't know what to expect. I had grown up hearing the legend of Tiger Stadium at night. I had watched the stadium roar on TV for years. When kickoff finally came, I remember I couldn't hear myself scream. It was sooooo loud, like being inside of a jet engine. The next 3 seasons I thought the atmosphere was pretty good.
In 2010 West Virginia, Tennessee, Bama, and Ole Miss.
In 2011 we were just awesome so therefore every game was awesome.
In 2012 South Carolina, Bama, and Ole Miss.
Come 2013 the atmosphere kinda sucked. Although there were some excuses because all the decent games were in extreme weather. Downpour vs AU, blazing heat vs Florida, and the awkward wet and cold game vs A&M.

This year is bad. I don't care about the cupcakes, but the MSU game was terrible. I felt bad for the players. I understand frustration and some fans just lose interest, but it was the amount of fans that left early. I hope polls stop ranking Tiger Stadium at #1 in stadium atmosphere. Because TBH we aren't even top 10.
There have been tons of these posts, so I'm sorry. But us LSU fans need to rally around this team. What has happened to Death Valley? Are 70% of our fans just a bunch of fareweather douchebags? Or what? Sorry about this rambling but it irritates me.

Only responding to the thread title:

Corporations, a necessity in 2014, have turned stadiums into different places compared to years ago. Plus, TV coverage has exponentially increased the quality of watching a game at home.

The place was full. The crowd couldn't get into the game because the quality of play was horrible. When LSU cut the lead to to 17-10, the stadium was rocking. The defense promptly gave up another TD to take the crowd out of the game. Once Moo State went up 34-10, the mass exodus began and I don't blame those who left. Until Harris game in, there was no reason to believe that LSU would come back.

I think graychef pretty much hit it on the head. I still have my season tickets that ive had over the last 32 years eventhough Ive lived in Montana sicne 2008. My sister and Bro in law goes on my tickets with family and friends and they tell me that they normally stay till the very end although I do believe they left early last night. But as graychef said and Ive heard Alan Risher say the same on postgame show, its just different with all the games on TV and I do believe that the corporate sponsonship which is a necessary evil has changed the lore of Tiger Stadium.

I went to the my first game in TS in the mid-80s and haven't stopped going since. The entire time there is a 53.3X120 yd patch of grass at the center of the stadium where 11 men wearing LSU colors match up against 11 men wearing another schools colors in a football game.

I expect no more or less. I cheer loudly for my team celebrating the wins and enduring the losses.

I've missed the part where corporations have changed this experience.

I guess people prefer living life through a screen when the real thing is available.

LSU cut the nuts off the fanbase.
Taking away cheers, blaring piped in music, trying to soak into our heads being nice to the opposing fan base.

People complain about how our fans are fairweather now and tiger stadium isn't intimidating anymore, but then complain about how the trashy some fans are and the perception of our student section saying bad words.
Pick one or the other people.

Sitting in same spot since 2000. I used to know the fans 1 to 2 rows in front and behind me. I only recognize 1 couple now. The rest of the seats seem to be corporate seats now and there are 4 seats in front of me that have only been used 4 times in the last 3 years. The ones that sit near us leave before half almost every game. No big deal to me because I can spread out.

My first game was in 2000 and it's been getting worse every year since 2008.

I had tickets from 2000-2004. I gave mine up due to work issues. It was awesome then. Up until 2003 still dying for a national title, program on the rise, great recruiting, etc.

I can see now why people wouldn't want to go. To be honest, I think it has grown stale. Boring games, play down to the competition, just not very much fun.

If I could go, I still wouldn't. I'd much rather relax and spend time with the family.

You're being obtuse.

Big businesses are changing college football. It starts with local contributions for tickets and goes all the way up to network TV. It's a vastly different atmosphere as compared to 15 years ago.

Some people prefer watching with friends, family, food, etc. It really isn't all that surprising.
