Hasn't Miles benched running backs for fumbling during his 10 seasons? Sometimes putting them in the dog house for a couple of weeks, if I'm remembering correctly.

I was wondering why he didn't follow this rule after Jenning's fumble in the first quarter yesterday?

Coach has given AJ plenty of opportunity to get out of his slump, now it's time to go with qb with the hot hand, like he does with his running backs.

QBs aren't as interchangeable as Running backs.

Because QB is an extremely important position and if he switches quarterbacks and it ends up being the wrong choice, its about the worst decision he can make as a coach. Its not nearly as bad as not switching for a guy who may actually be better

eta:

Miles just coaches scared.

Don't think he's ever done it to the QBs.

Except Lee, he prolly did it to Lee at some point.

I've seen him bench MF for an interception and put JR. back in the game. MF is the only QB I've seen treated this way.

Ahh ok. So it takes 1 fumble and 3 interceptions to get changed out. I hope Harris gets this many oopsies to prove himself.

The backup doesn't get benched he gets taken out.

Has it been a part of the big picture on determining which RBs to give the most carries to? Sure. It does for every coach, see Ridley getting his workload taken away in New England.

But there is no evidence that it ever lead to a "benching" because of a fumble or two alone. Just another myth that gets popular because it's easy for people to repeat instead of actually analyzing the situation. Miles has never been afraid to cycle RBs with or without fumbling. If turnovers bothered Miles to an extreme, he would have had a shorter leash on Lee in 2008 and JJ over the course of his career.

Don't remember this, but my guess would be if this happened... Flynn probably audibled out of a run to a pass in mop-up time.

Well think of it this way, if a backup RB or WR is low enough in the pecking order that they are only getting a few plays here and there, are you really going to increase their playing time if they start making mental mistakes? No, you decrease it. And if you lower the amount of plays below just a few....

It really pissed me off at the time. I remember Charles H bitching about the stupidity of this being it was mop up time.

Les said at the time Flynn wasn't mentally ready to play. How do you or Hanagriff know if Les isn't exactly right considering we were annihilating Miss St. then Flynn immediately threw a pick 6?
