I played a crappy one for years. Ate up my life. From time to time, I play a day, sign up for a few months then never touch it again.

Think I signed on last January and paid for the year, then never logged on.

Problem with theses games is you need TONS of time to keep up and have the best goodies and I just don't have that much time anymore.

You had to be searching for anyone playing Tibia.

I played hardcore for a while in early 2004-2005. Got back into it recently then got pissed when I was hunting and got lured on by the power guild on the server (non-pvp) and died.

Wow had no idea people still played Tibia. I never got into it, but I remember one of my friends and some people he knew were big fans of it around 10 or so years ago.

Anyone else on here used to play Runescape? Only MMORPG I've ever really played and haven't even considered trying any since I quit because I got so sucked into it (despite it being a pretty simple game). Played the hell out of it from around 4th or 5th grade to until around the end of middle school. My friends and I always thought we were so slick whenever we would go on the free severs and scam noobs out of a few thousand gold via some sort of absurd propositions. Good times.

I remember that if you wanted to fight dragons in RS you needed a special shield; once saw a dude go fight one pretty deep in the wilderness while decked out in some type of Barrow armor and I guess he forgot to equip the shield and the dragon KO'd him in one hit. This was proceeded by someone else nearby using a tele-grab spell to immediately take everything he dropped and attempting to book it before being ambushed by another group of players that took him down in about 5 seconds

Wouldn't mind maybe trying to play some sort of MUD from time to time, but as previously mentioned in here by others, I also usually can't stand trying to coordinate team-based stuff with people I don't know IRL.

Its not as popular as it once was. I'm not sure what it is but for some reason I keep playing it from time to time.

I haven't played one in 7 years, and that was Anarchy Online and WoW. My first one I played was Allegiance, which was an awesome little game. Then moved onto Eve.

I have not heard any news about new mmorpgs coming out. I assume by this point those that play are maxed out.

How would a new player like a mmorpg if they just start one that has been out for years

MMORPGs are on a downward trend due in part to years of failed big budget WoW clones. Now we're living in the age of the MOBA.

That said, there are still a number of MMORPGs with sizable populations that are a lot of fun to play if you aren't burnt out by the genre.

WoW, FFXIV: ARR, GW2, SW:TOR, TERA, and Wildstar are probably the easiest to get into these days, but games like EverQuest II, LotRO, and Rift are good too.

For a fun FTP game, Neverwinter is pretty solid.

I used to play EverQuest from like 2003-2005 before moving on to EverQuest II and then WoW. I've spent many months in several other MMOs, but those were always the big three for me.

I've tried EVE numerous times but can never devote enough time to learn it.

I played Ultima Online, WoW, and FFXI all for about a year a piece.

I just got FFXIV:ARR for PS4 and it's glorious.

Neverwinter Nights, and this is in like 2003ish or so

No one ever dropped the ball harder than whoever owned the rights to D&D coming to pc games and online - literally had the market cornered on swords and sorcery, pen and paper RPG and virtually every attempt was a C minus (or worse). The sole exception was Troika's "Temple of Elemental Evil" - Troika going under with their failed attempt to get Fallout 3 (which would have been awesome) probably killed what could have been the best RPG experience for us old guys who played D&D in the 70s and 80s as kids.

Neverwinter Nights was similar in feel, but I've not enjoyed Bioware's offerings (take it back - Baldur's Gate I dug - II, not so much) over the years. Probably just me.
