Spread vs Pro Style Offense

To all of those wanting an "Oregon" or "A&M" type of offense, is that the type of offense you really want??? A quick strike, up tempo, gimmick type offense? Shootout type games? Seriously? That's all it is....there are always gimmicks that come and go....but the pro style offense, executed properly, is the only offense that has weathered the times.
Now, I'm not saying I don't want to see some change in LSU's offense. I 'd love to see it evolve...but imo, a pro style offense is PERFECT to beat a team that runs an up tempo spread type offense....go on long 8-10 play drives, completely wear the defense down, and control the clock....keep defense fresh...and when you force a 3 and out the opposing team's defense is back on the field within a few minutes because of up tempo. When that comes together...game over...don't care who you playing.
To me, all those wanting a gimmick offense, are just having knee-jerk reactions...what have Oregon and A&M won???? and more times than not, when they play quality defenses....they fail...but man, they look awesome when they can out-talent teams.......Keep the power pro style offense, just add some wrinkles....be creative and not predictive. Right now, many think there are major holes all over the offense....really, it's just the lack of qb production that changes everything. I don't care how great an OL is, if they are having to block 8-9 people with only 5-7 lineman.....until the LSU qb can make teams respect their passing ability...that won't change....but if one of the qb's develops, it will change everything on the offense at some point this year.
Oh, and Welter gotta go.........
***forgot to add, Mustache, CPL325, Oh Lawd, Northshore, Katy, Deltadoc....etc....this post not for you....let some of the more novice guys respond.....we don't need expert opinions here...just the average joe. Thanks.

I would love to see LSU go to a pro style offense even an 80's style pro style offense, but the 60's pro style with the backs in an I and two TE's has to be dumped.

Doesn't matter what offense you run, you have to have a QB who can make plays. We don't have that guy.

But a 21st century pro style offense would be awesome. Single back, 3 wideouts, with passing on any down and distance.

The problem is right now we can't push anyone around and we constantly have 3rd and longs. A spread would benefit this team more this year.

agreed....that's why I said some tweaking to it....not overhauling the entire system.

The spread scores more points
You win the game by having more points fricktard
You win the game by having more points fricktard

I'll take anything over what we have now.

We need to get rid of the gimmicks, just a straight up pro offense with the QB lined up in the shotgun, 3 wideouts , with passing and running all over the field. Make better use of our talented skill players. We just don't have the overpowering O-line to run the 4th and inches jumbo style that we currently run.

I'll take the 2013 LSU offense all day everyday over the A&M/Oregon spread.

If you mean a Saints style pro offense, not going to happen at LSU with Les Miles. Would love to see it but not happening.

I want an offense that plays the best players . Oh and a defense that plays the best players also.

All for keeping a pro style offense with a fricking pro style qb. If you want that offense then our coach is a dumbass of for bringing in 2 pistol QBs

What exactly do you mean by 'pro style offense anyway'? There are many different offenses in the pro's. NOt many (if any) teams in the NFL use the theory that you have to establish the run game first in order to pass the ball any more. They're just as likely to line up in a spread on 1st and 10 as they are on any other down. Not predictable.

You're attacking a straw man, just like tons of other posts just like this one have done. It's not calling for a "spread" offense to want to run more 3 or 4 wide receiver sets and less I-formation, twin TE, single receiver sets. What is so hard to understand about that? That's the plain, easily defensible and unpredictable offense we've been running.
I have been clamoring for LSU to run a pro-style offense since 2008. I think it is a fantastic offense and very suited to our conference and recruiting base. A pro-style offense involves 3 and 4 wide receiver sets as well. I'd like us to open the field up and be less predictable. That doesn't mean switching to an Oregon or A&M offense. STOP USING STRAWMAN ARGUMENTS!

Hell, I'm not even sure I want to see the Saints running the "Saints pro style offense"....haha. I'd love to see power game, with 3 wr's and a TE, with some unpredictability to it...just wear their azz down.....

How on Earth do you know that?
And it doesn't matter if you do you have limited quarterback play anyhow. Any system that offers you more efficiency is desirable. It doesn't take an elite quarterback to run a pro-style offense. Our current offense is abysmal and I assure you our quarterbacks and the entire offense would benefit from less predictability, better scheming, and less congestion at the line of scrimmage. We have talent at wide receiver. The offensive strategy, regardless of the capabilities of the QB's at the moment, is handicapping our production.
