Hmm. Went into it not expecting much and was pleasantly surprised. The first third isn't bad but seemed a little random, but then it starts getting suspenseful. Last 2/3 is very good.

Didn't like the very ending, like they kinda mailed it in. Was reaching a peak and deflated.

I liked it, but was a little disappointed by the ending.

One thing that confused me, is how cold is the Earth in this movie?

In one scene we have the guy's arm hanging out the porthole for 7 minutes. It comes back as a frozen armsicle.

At the end, the chinese girl and the little boy are walking around outside with just fur coats for warmth, and a polar bear is chilling out on the mountain with them. It doesn't jive. The girls tears didn't even freeze on her face.

Also, what was the chinese security expert looking at through the window at the bottom of that revine? He mentions it again before the climax of the the movie, but I didn't catch what he was talking about.

A plane that was becoming more exposed each year (evidence that it was getting warmer).

The guys arm was bare, hanging out of a train going ~100mph at night. The result may be overblown, but even in survivable 0 degree weather, that's going to hurt. And I think the kids at the end had multiple layers of coats.

The second answers the first. The Chinese guy said every time they pass that spot he looks at a crashed plane on a summit. When he looked just then the snow and ice had melted away and he could see more of the plane than ever before - that when the freezing condition reverses itself, it will happen quickly. That's why he wanted to blow the door instead of opening the engine door.

I thought Allison Pill did an amazing job in the small scene she was in.

Really good movie.

Gotcha. I couldn't understand that translator.
They were still kind of inconsistant with the effects of the cold though.

I really enjoyed it. Much more brutal than I thought it would be.

If by cool, you mean a beast of hell nightmares.

The movie has an interesting concept but the execution was horrible.

SPOILERS POILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

A train was simply a dumb idea. If they had made it a massive cruise ship following the warmest water currents, that would have made more sense.

If the train only made 1 loop in a year the rails would have been impassable. The whole snow piercer train was silly because the train was constantly coming off the rails. At minimum the train should have been permanently attached to the rails. That bouncing up and down was just a mess.

Also, there needed to be 100s of cars. We didn't see nearly enough.

Where was the bug incubation room? How about the chicken coop? Pig sty? Where were the sleeping compartments?

The cruise ship works better because they wouldn't necessarily pass through every room.

I get that they don't have time to show us the trek through 100s of cars but if you want to make you movie somewhat more believable, then the train needed to be a helluva a lot bigger. They didn't need to show every car but the did need to show a MUCH bigger train.

The reaction of the other passengers was odd. Seems like there would have been more panic when bloodied tail enders showed up.

Why were so many of the rich folks insane? Seems like the axe crew with hoodies were one step from devolved orcs.

They rest of the rich folks didn't seem to give a crap yet they attacked Sonny Chiba in the last car.

What was the deal between the clairvoyant chick and the fat dude who wouldn't die? And why exactly wouldn't he die?

Tilda Swinton is one creepy arse chich. She could easily pop up in my nightmares at some point.

As always, I abhor slow motion!

I agree on a lot of your complaints.

I took the rich people being so weird as deranged from the 18 years of boredom.

It was already a 2 hr movie so I guess there was no way to get into a lot of what they could or needed to.

I liked it. Obviously not very believable but I thought it was original and entertaining. I'll bet the books is pretty cool.

Oh yeah, what was the deal with the eggs and that silver pill looking thing that had a message inside it?

Stopped reading here. If people have problems with a movie when it doesn't follow it's own rules then its a legit complaint. If you critique a movie based on your world's rules, how does that make any sense? You may as well complain about the science in Jurassic Park being nonsense therefore everything that happened after the helicopter landed on the island is hogwash.

well part of "following its rules" is explaining the sustainability of humanity over the past 18 years

this movie didn't

the reason: it's a dystopian future movie with a catchy hook. for some reason this is a major meme. this movie's hook was shite

therefore, the movie was shite

why? it was just too ridiculous and not believable. what happens is that the movie became absurdly silly. you can't try to make a serious movie involving a dystopian future and a societal statement and have it come off as silly. it's a clash of themes

in a more literary description, and as i've stated before, this movie required way too much suspension of disbelief
