Caught my first tagged redfish this week - Information received from SC DNR

Some of you might have seen my earlier thread where my fishing trip to the Chandeleur Islands was canceled due to weather. We were still in a fishing mood so we detoured to Charleston, SC and chartered a boat earlier in the week. Among other things we caught some nice bulls.
One of my fish was tagged (see the orange strip on his back below), and after providing the number to DNR I received a report with the fish's history and also a t-shirt. It turns out this fish was 9 years old and first tagged 71 miles away from where I caught him. He was caught once in 2010 by another angler, and has grown 6 inches in 4 years (He was 38 inches long when I caught him).
My understanding is that if he is caught again by another angler DNR will send me another letter notifying me of his new information.

That is pretty cool...
Until you think that fish probably cost DNR (taxpayers) ~ $100k

I'd have killed that fish. He's got some cool spots.

You might want to invest in a slightly bigger shirt

Reel Deal Charters - We went with Capt. Greg and had a great time. Everything is included: rods, bait, license

Damn brah, you are widely peripatetic.
Glad to hear that you released him to be caught again, and to provide additional info. Neat stuff to know.
