Why not try something new?

The power I toss clearly does not work. The defenders are keying in on the fullback, and all this does is clog up the lane for the running backs. We need to start putting the fullback in motion more (misdirection and/or counters). I personally believe we don't need a fullback, but that's my opinion (we can use the tight end as an extra blocker because clearly he isn't used in the passing game). We can play 3 wide receivers out of this package utilizing the sidelines more and spreading the linebackers out of the middle (more big runs and plays).

Thoughts?

It does work, just not every time...just like every other play...
I bet the Rant has nightmares over this play

He has a point. Les seems to think it is not fair to try and fool the other team.

Problem is teams are loading the box, like they always have in the past. Difference is this year, there is no real passing threat, so make Jennings throw deep balls all night, stay on top of those and stop the run. Teams have figured that out. With Mett, if you loaded the box, he could throw the ball to Landry and Beckham deep, or short, and if they made defenders miss it was a house call. So far this year LSU hasn't shown the ability to do that.

I saw it used in an NFL game sunday. play went for about 30 yards. I guess the bitch worked.

the play is not nearly as important as being able to read the defense and call the play at the right time and then execute it properly.

just to say a play doesn't work is just plain wrong.

When it doesn't work, Miles seems to run it more and more

I really wish we would setup a play action out of this. The QB can fake the toss, roll out, and hit Dural on a crossing route. If anything, it would make the defense think twice about stacking the line so quickly after the QB tosses the ball.

Any offense can work depending on personnel and execution.

The first thing I thought of was reading about a quote from a coach when asked to describe how it is to prepare for LSU's offense. His response was how easy it was to game plan for LSU's offense. Looks like LSU's lackadaisical line play is catching up to the team this early in the season. There's a lot of games left to play to straightened this out.

Does the behind the butt pointing by the fullback to the running back before plays automatically signal a run? This may happen before passes, too, but every time I've noticed it, a run to one side or the other of the center seems always to follow.

Obviously, stop the dang pointing if that is a tell-tale signal for a run!!!

That is not the problem. The problem is blocking. Do I have to go through the whole of 2010, 2011, and 2012, where we were one of the worse passing teams in the country? We still ran over opponents to at least 10 regular season wins each year.

We have to find a way to work around the terrible blocking for now, and hope that improves later in the year. Nothing will advance the running game by much other than giving Fournette about q8-20 carries. Of course spreading the defense out will help some, but it's not the magic pill that will cure our running game woes.

Right now, we are averaging 245 passing yards a game, thanks in large part to MSU. We need to hit around 270-280 passing a game, and hope for 140-150 rushing in league play. The philosophy needs to change. We can't be a run first team this year. We have to use the pass to set up the run compared to the last four year. We have to utilize our dangerous receivers and backs like Fournette, Magee and Williams in the pass game. We have to go against the weaknesses of the defense, and all of them seem to be the secondary.

Counter treys and traps out of ace formation are very nice plays if we ran them. With so much i formation u would think we would run a ton of counter leads.

We need to spread out our oppents more when running, but alot of our problems are execution on the O-line, period!
