Alvarez said he doesn't talk to the other committee members much -- there will be plenty of time for that when they start meeting on a regular basis beginning Oct. 27 -- but he still does his own top-25 ranking each week.

"I've got one of our statisticians helping me," Alvarez said. "He works in our sports information office and he's a stat nut. We look at statistics, we watch film together, we sit down and he and I talk about the games and put our things together."

I wonder if they look at each teams recruiting rankings the last 4 years

I understand there are shitty teams with awesome talent and great teams with shitty talent, but usually that is not the case.

Not saying put a lot of stock into it, but it definitely can be indicative of each team's talent level.

he is probably looking for a way to mathematically argue for a Big 10 team to make the playoffs.

I promise you the stat he's looking at the closest is Wisconsin rushing vs. Arkansas rushing week in and week out.

Yeah, luckily I have more to live for than a college football team.

I'm just counting my blessings that I'm not forced to rock such a pretty purple every Saturday in the fall.

Eta: Nah, I'm JK. It really is a lovely shade of purple.

I read the espn article on him and his eval thoughts. Imo he represents a pretty good brain to put "true" NC contenders in the final four. I was first on the train to pit conf champs only but there is only one conf whose champ is forever ready for the big stage in Jan-Feb. So outside of the SEC champ, i'ld love to see Alvarez's thinking of the last three teams into the tourney.

It seems like he's going above and beyond and taking his position seriously.
