The video showing a shooting involving a state trooper and an unarmed man has been released to the public.

The video was taken from the dash camera installed inside 31-year-old Sean Groubert's vehicle during an encounter in which Groubert shot 35-year-old Levar Jones on September 4th at a Circle K gas station on Broad River Road.

Department of Public Safety Director Leroy Smith fired Groubert September 19th after observing the video and reviewing a report from the State Law Enforcement Division.

In the video, Groubert can be heard asking Jones for his license. As soon as Jones reaches inside his vehicle, though, Groubert begins firing his weapon, shouting "get on the ground, get on the ground."

Jones, who was injured in the hip, stumbles away from the vehicle. He throws up his hands and can be heard asking Groubert "what did I do" and "what did I do sir?"

Groubert then tells Jones to put his hands behind his back.

Groubert was arrested Wednesday and charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. Bond was set at $75,000.
This guy is lucky the dash cam wasn't mysteriously "non-operational" and that the cop has such terrible aim that three shots only grazed his hip. (Even with all that, that he was fired and charged without an apparent peep from the union tells me the cop was probably a serial frick-up.)

Bonus points: the traffic stop was a seat belt violation.

It annoys the shite out of me that they're still calling this an "officer-involved shooting" and not aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, even after it's actually charged as such.

You can tell the cop knows he is screwed as soon as he figures out the guy was just getting his license.

This is insane. If people wonder why everyday citizens are developing such a negative view of the police, this is a good reason why. It's just maddening how cops have decided that the people they're supposed to "serve and protect" are apparently the enemy.

On the brightside, the cop has been charged and faces 20 years in prison. I hope he gets the max.

The day when robots will be capable of handing law enforcement duties and quick service restaurant cooking and management can't get here fast enough.

Food and restaurants I'm cool with for robots, but I want you to think long and hard about robots as cops and what could go wrong with such an idea.

The guy was nice about it, I would've been pissed and told him to have fun working as an unarmed security guard on his next job
