Just a heads up:

I bought a new-to-me F250 a few weeks ago. Before I bought it, I brought it to coy for a $100 pre-purchase inspection. They told me all was good, so I picked the truck back up and bought it. When I picked it up, Coy tried to sell me on the $5500 bulletproofing (it's a 6.0). I was planning on doing it. Today I was changing the oil for the first time. In doing so, I found a Sinister EGR delete kit had already been installed. Not only did Coy not tell me this was already on the truck, he tried to sell it to me. Shitty. So it means either the truck was never inspected, or worse, they were just hoping I was stupid. Won't give them another dollar, EVER.

I have heard the same thing, unfortunately. Coy himself is a good guy and great mechanic but once he got big, the work went to shite.

I remember hearing good things about that place several years ago, then seemingly overnight nothing but negative reviews and stories alot like that.

He's gotten some pretty bad rap on this board especially. Shitty motors, shitty mechanics

People don't just get a bad reputation for nothing. He got his reputation for what he does, how he handles business, how he treats people, and the work that they do

The guy that first told me about Coy's shop going to shite gave me a name of another company. He has never used them but another client of his is a regular for several trucks and speaks highly of them.

Industry Solutions

Has anybody used them? I really dont think I want to do the EGR delete myself.

I'd have to definitely let him know that for a diesel mechanic he's pretty stupid for not noticing the delete kit that was already on there.

And maybe it's not him. Chances are he didn't even look at your truck, but that's not the point.

Not to thread jack BUT

does anyone know of any shops in Metairie or New Orleans.

I have a 06 6.0 with 68K no problems but at 58K did a coolant flush and installed coolant bypass filter.

Thinking of delete or just upgrading to 2012 (might have found a good deal on a low mileage 12)

My truck is at Tri-Care on Airline right now, I've heard good things so I will let everyone know how it goes. They are putting on new tires, and addressing a power steering issue I knew about, so I guess it's nothing diesel specific.

At least my lesson with Coy only cost me $100. Sounds like some people have paid much higher prices to learn the same.

I have also installed the Sinister coolant filter. Curious to see what the first filter looks like. I'm running a scangauge2 and my Engine oil/Coolant Temp delta is only running about 7*, so I think my oil cooler is still in great shape. Hell, it was probably changed when the previous owner did the EGR delete.

There is a shop out in Kennah bruh, but I can't remember the name. They have a Facebook page as their website IIRC

Mind asking them about EGR deletes when you pick it up? All I want is a DPF, EGR, and delete pipe. I can do 2/3 but dont want to mess with the EGR at all.

Yes they will do all of that. You're gonna need to locate a programmer first though. Another thing about Tri-care is that out of the year or so my truck was there, they never once upsold me on stuff that wasn't needed. If I had any questions about the work, they had no problems showing me the defective parts or walking me into the shop and letting me have a look at stuff.

Here's a story that can better explain how my last interaction went with them. This was a week before I sold my truck:

I was getting something done where the cab had to be off again. Didn't want to spend a single dollar more than I had to fixing it. Jay called and told me that my oil cooler had all kinds of shite in it(coolant residue), and that I should put a new one in it so I didn't have to come back a month later when it fricked up for good. I told him I wasn't paying a fricking thing more than I needed to to get the thing running, and I would just let the guy I sold it to worry about it. We went back and forth for a minute and he finally said, "Fine, I'm putting the thing in if you want me to or not. You've had enough problems with it and I don't want any more stuff going wrong. I'm not charging you for anything, but I'm putting one in". Sho nuff, he had the mechanic put a brand new one in and didn't charge me for the part or labor.

Ask for Jay or Daniel and tell them the guy with the cursed F250 sent you. I told them I sold it, but there is no way they forgot that truck.

They are very quick with work, but also do a lot of fleet work, so they might not be able to get to it for a day or three. To put that into perspective, they can have the cab off of an 08-10 in under 2hrs with one mechanic working on it. Swapped a long block and all parts over, then put the cab back on in about 10hrs. Diesel rates are around $100/hr anywhere you go, and they use computer hours like all other shops, so don't be surprised when the labor bill is high.

Thanks for the heads up and advise. On phone now so I'm short winded. I have a guy who can supply the tuner, tunes, dpf and egr deletes. I am only going with a delete pipe because I only want a small tune and want to keep the stock tailpipe. Biggest thing is reliability.

It'll be a bit till in order the entire package, I'll go to Tru care when I do though.

Ice Cream Sammich I am about to embark on the same journey. I just bought a 6.0 and have been researching and watching videos like crazy. I think I am going to tackle the EGR stuff myself.

I'd suggest getting an intake while you're at it. Not sure if you have the 6.0 or the 6.4, but I'd definitely consider getting studs. That is what lead to my downfall.

I still have no idea why they use those TTY bolts on engines making big boost

Start with a coolant filtration system and a scangauge2. I was about to drop the money on a new oil cooler for peace of mind, since my truck has the crap gold coolant. Turns out my eot/ect delta is only 5-7*. Instead I'm just going to flush and go with new cat-1 coolant.

Scangauge also shows ficm voltage, fan rpm, and a bunch of other nifty info.
