While Jennings has not played all that well, he has not made too many huge mistakes and he has in fact made a few big plays. We seem to forget that he has only 5 games under his belt. He has time to progress. Contrast that with the OL, which is experienced and abysmal. This OL has a combined 93 starts and 148 games played. Consider our starting MLB who has 17 starts and 25 games under his belt. The DL is largely inexperienced but I would argue that our DL is a much greater issue right now than our QB.

Our issues ranked in order starting with the greatest IMO:

1) DL
2) LB
3) OL
4) QB

Subpar quarterback play trumps awful DL play any day of the week.

That would be a fair assessment, I think. Add #5, gametime coaching.

Good post.
But, I would put it:

1) DL
2) LB
3) OL
4) Play calling
5) QB

Catastrophe Syndrome. Saban taught our neanderthal fanbase nothing while he was here. He preached it....the choir didn't hear him though.

I don't care if Aaron Rodgers is suiting up for us on Saturdays we are not winning if we give up 600 yards to the opposing team.

I disagree. Based on the philosophy of our coach....the philosophy that has won him a lot of games....games are won with solid defense and a good running game, and your QB just has to make a few plays and take care of the ball.

When your DL is crappy, the other team can turn the tables on you and dominate the game on the ground. When said crappy DL allows the other team to score a lot of points, it puts more pressure on the QB to make plays, and the domino effect begins..

Or to reverse it, if we have a great DL, then we don't give up as many points and our QB doesn't have to be great. Give me a great DL and an "ok" QB anytime in this system.

Our defense got fingered in our own stadium. 570 total, over 300 ON THE frickING GROUND!

List is pretty accurate, imo.

With an elite quarterback you could temporarily mask defensive issues and stay competitive while you strive towards fixing the defense.

It is not Jennings, he just is better suited for goal line offense; Harris is not.

When the defense knows that you are going to run the ball up the middle almost every 1st and 2nd down, it is difficult for the OL to not look terrible.

I will reserve judgement on the OL until I see them get to play 1st and 2nd down when there are not 8 or 9 defenders in the box.

As far as offensive issues, the offensive approach is the biggest problem. If that approach is being used because Jennings can't run a more diverse offense, then a QB change is badly needed.

Defensive issues: this all starts with the LBs. Our MLB does not belong on the field. He fills the proper hole 5% of the time, and when he does he usually engages a blocker and gets taken out of the play. We have also had some major scheme issues (such as on the long QB TD run last week).

The DL is not great, but when they are on the field time after time following 3 and outs, I don't care how good they are, their performance is going to lag.

Our defensive problems are largely due to the lack of ability of the offense to maintain possession.

If you don't think our offensive performance in the MSU game was not largely responsible for how bad the defense looked, then you just haven't thought it through very carefully.

Really? You'd rather have a solid defense over a Super Bowl winning quarterback? Interesting.

Yeah no.... A qb who can't hit 8-15 yard passes is a problem hoss..... Granted the online has be far from good but our current qb holds that ball a long time.... Maybe because all he want to do is throw deep.... But qb by far is in the top 2.... Jennings had plenty of time the most of the night last week.... And gee even if he didn't thought he was suppose to be a runner as well.... But He is horrible at those choices as well... He waits to long to feel the pressure for a duel threat qb when there is pressure I was routing for Jennings but I am ready to see what harris can do

Bad QB play means the defense has no respect for the passing game and they load the box against the running game.

1)Les Miles' offensive philosophy
2)Jennings
3)DT/MLB play
4)Bad fans that leave the game early
