If Welter's Job Is to Line Up the Defense, Why Is Defense Out of Position?

10 plays of 20 yards or more?
570 yards given up?
99 yard drive in just a handful of plays?
HUGE runs up the middle?
What exactly does Welter add to the defense? If his job is to make the calls and get everyone lined up, then why the constant breakdowns?
Are the breakdowns coming from other places? As bad as the offense was, the defense was miles worse.
I am sure that this has been discussed, but I have largely stayed off the Rant since Saturday and have missed any discussion on this particular topic.

I don't know. None of us know.
Best guess is that maybe Beckwith just hasn't got "it" yet?
But the defense has been bad, and it has been bad enough that it is not fair to just single out Welter all the time. I don't even think he is the weakest link.

I read that it was the most given up in the history of LSU. That might be wrong, but I saw that somewhere over the past few days.
At home. Against an unranked opponent that we had beaten 15 straight times.

I could'nt really tell what was going on most of the time. Several times I noticed that Welter was the only one wandering around the middle and the outside linebackers would be on the ends of the line. Haven't seen this kind of formation before, but it was obvious that if one crease opened in the center, Dak would have open space. Got burned big time by this (spreading the D out) several times. I guess its impossible for us to do that, as they had their linebackers in the box against us and could stop a play.
I'm no expert or coach and only played offensive line many years ago, but it was obvious to me from the stands what was going on. Looks like we could've adjusted easily, but it never happened.
Did Beckwith even see the field on D? I didn't notice him, and don't understand it. Is he just not good enough (guess not in Chavis' eyes)? Kind of sick of watching Welter bounce off runners when he does get to the ball.

Pretty sure you can answer the first question with the second one.

I am still puzzled just as Welter was I guess as to why there was no one behind the line when States QB ran up the middle for a TD when we had just scored to get within 7? A brainless idiot like myself could have looked over there and figured out that the QB was gonna run right where I am not.

And this brings up the question about where the safety's are in run support up the middle. They are nowhere to be found either.
Just run up the middle against LSU and the DT's, MLB, and Safety's disappear. Really strange.

Ronald Martin played almost as bad as Welter did saturday.

LSU pretty much only puts 10 people on the field on defense.

You're seriously fricking retarded... its almost comical.
How is it one players fault that the entire defense was garbage? Even if some one is lineed up it won't matter when they get blown up or a D-line man gets blocked 5 yards up the field.
You obviously pay little attention bc Beckwith got a lot of playing time and couldn't do shite either. What are you going to have to bitch about when Beckwith starts and they still get run over...... It's the entire defense that is bad. The D-line has no clue how to gap control or take on multiple blockers, linebackers can't flow and stay in their stance too long, and the secondary is not lights out like people thought and also can't cover people forever with that wannabe pass rush. It starts up front.

I and a few other posters posted that. Apparently we gave more up to Spurrier when he was at Florida. It's still the most of Miles' tenure.

Chavis now has the most yards given up in a miles tenure and the most rushing yards given up in school history.
