It's ginseng season here and it's nothing like that program on Discovery Channel about ginseng hunters. This week two local guys from Lee County, Virginia dug up what could be the oldest ginseng root ever found in the U.S. It was 200 years old and weighed about 11 ounces. If I can find a non-facebook picture of this big ginseng root I'll post it. Here's the WCYB TV short video: LINK

On the North side of the mountain away from direct sun light. Usually in the hollows where it's not too damp. Watch out for copperheads and rattlers, though.

Just try diggin up any kind of plant in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Sure jail time. That show is an absolute farce and a joke.

I agree the show like all reality shows damn joke. the meth heads poaching sang get little to no jail time but occupy 90% of the Rangers time & are 100% repete offenders. poachers are the scourge of the earth.

Haven't found a non-facebook picture of this big sang root yet, but if you have a facebook account ( ), here is WCYB-TV's picture of the 200 year old root. Worth about 9K dried out.

LINK

Edited: Just tried the link without loggin on to FB. It'll go straight to the pic and the comments. One 4 prong and three 3 prongs. That's definitely a keeper.

it is really kind of a shame to kill a 200 year old plant so that some little chinese dude can eat it and hope that his peter gets hard...

I had mixed feelings about it, too. Kind of like cuttin down a 2,000 year old redwood tree. They could take that dried root to NYC and sell it directly to the Chinese buyers there for about 1500 - 2000 dollars/ounce.
