A grand jury on Tuesday (Sept. 23) indicted the former head of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, Bruce Greenstein, on perjury charges relating to alleged contact he had with CNSI, his former employer, before that company was awarded one of the biggest contracts in state history.

"This indictment is for perjury," Assistant Attorney General David Caldwell said, "But it really stems from the entirety of the activity in the awarding of this contract."

A special grand jury has been exploring the case for 18 months, said Caldwell. Greenstein was indicted on nine counts of lying to the state Senate and to a grand jury. Asked if further indictments are possible, Caldwell said the grand jury will remain impaneled "to do additional work in this case."

I'm glad NOTHING like htis will happen after we turn all of our healthcare over to government. It'll be different next time!

Because private industry types never commit crime!

quote:

In 2004 Martin Frankel was convicted of looting several insurance companies throughout the Midwest of over $200 million (some say anywhere up to $1 billion). Frankel had acquired the companies through a private trust set up to hide his involvement since he had been barred from trading following the detection of a similar scheme carried out years earlier in Ohio. Claiming he was investing the companies’ assets, he instead stole $200 million to pay for a two-house compound in Connecticut and luxury cars to lure women, some of whom he met through ads for sex.

He's only number 10

No one said that. We have some nice prices in the back for you.

And the obvious operative difference...

Private industries don't threaten me with the prospect of jail for not participating and buying their "product".

How could he not? Jindal intentionally waited until right after the legislative session was closed in order to appoint him. Then, the legislature had all kinds of questions about how impartial he would be in giving out the contract. Karen Carter Peterson asked the Jindal administration if they were worried he was going to award the contract to his former employer and they just steamrolled over them. The Jindal administration refused to reveal why they awarded the contract the way they did while session was in. They cited "executive privilege" and "deliberative process". The legislators said they were concerned that it would embroil the state in a scandal/law suit. The Jindal administration dismissed them.

So, they knew it was a concern.

Fast-forward and low and behold, it happened just like those legislators said it would.
