Liquid metal could be used to create morphing electronics

quote:

Who could forget the scene in Terminator 2: Judgement Day where the shape-shifting T-1000 reassembles itself from thousands of blobs of molten metal? Researchers from North Carolina State University (NCSU) have taken the first steps to such science fiction becoming reality by developing a way to control the surface tension of liquid metals with the application of very low voltages. This may offer opportunities in a new field of morphing electronic circuits, self-healing electronics, or – one day – maybe even self-assembling terminator-style robots.

Just invent the lightbulb that never ever burns out. That would suffice for now.

113-year old light bulb

I guess they don't build them like they used to.

In theory, but talk to an electrician about that. My uncle, a master electrician, started dating them and found that many of the LED bulbs were marginally better than than traditional incandescents. CFL's are even worse.

They'd better not ever turn that thing off. The filaments would probably blow when turned back on. Ever notice that your light bulbs typically blow out at that point, and not just randomly?

They didn't invent it, they harvested it from dead transformers. It's called transformium.

They turned that bulb off once. When the new fire house was built that had to take the bulb with them due to the significance of how long it burned. They only cut the wires to it because they were too afraid to handle the actual bulb.

When they rewired it, it came right back on
