Just came back from the movie. I'm pretty sure I just saw a masterpiece. I loved the underlying satire and the critical view of the american media. That score is so haunting too.

Cop hierarchy sucks in the real world. Period. Once the feds have it, it's gone. I know that cops never give up in comedies after they lose their guns and badges, but the real world isn't like that.
Well, she didn't lose her badge and it wouldn't have been that hard to investigate her story - Feds or no Feds. Like I said, the final minutes of the film the characters start to act like Flynn needed them to in order for the desired ending to happen.

I went and saw it last night at the wife's request. Really good movie. I did notice a hole in the investigation though. Amy told investigators in the hospital after she killed Barney that he basically immediately took her to the lake house and had his way with her that first night. Well wouldn't the police be able to look at the security camera footage and notice that she wasn't there the first 4-5 days of her being missing like she said she was?

Possibly. But that'd be a four hour movie.

Yep. Went and saw it this weekend. I'm glad I didn't read the book beforehand. The plot twists were awesome. I typically don't like most movies but this one was pretty incredible.

I just got done reading the book, and I don't recall any mention of security cameras. That must be a movie addition. That's especially true where Desi's mom goes crazy shouting his innocence (she does in the book, not sure if she does in the movie) but she makes no mention of any footage. Certainly she would if it existed.

We don't see Desi's mom in the movie.
ETA: in the film there are about a dozen outdoor security cameras. Amy uses them to her advantage by staging what looked like a brutal rape had just occurred. She tells the police to check the cameras, only thing is she wasn't there the first 4-5 days she claimed.

She wasn't there the first 4 to 5 days. But in the book she claims she was drugged. He kept her somewhere, but she can't recall where. She even rolls around in the trunk of his car, and puts a few of her long hair (pre cut) in the trunk. She had saved some just in case.

When the feds say you fricked up and take your case, you stop. Like I said, this isn't a comedy.

Yeah, I'm not doubting all the bases were covered in the book.
ETA: Little things like this in movies are really starting to bug me, I guess because I'm getting older. Another recent example is from the movie Transcendence. You have a highly organized and targeted terror attack within the first 10 minutes of the movie that takes out all but 4 of the leading AI researchers and the remaining 4 don't have any extra security at all for the remainder of the film? wtf? No cop cars in front of the house, no security guards at the hospital, nothing.

Sorry, but I know plenty of police officers that would not just give up on something that was pretty obviously such a fishy story. I also don't think the Feds would be this stupid, but then again this was all for the convenience of the story.

Finally saw it.
Holy shite what a movie. Had me gripped till the end. Score and cinematography were top notch as usual with a Fincher film. Pike should/will be up for an Oscar, played the psychopath perfectly. Rest of the cast was great, really enjoyed Tyler Perry's role as well as Coon's portrayal of his sister. Dickens was also great as the local cop.
The ending pissed me off, but hey, in real life it doesn't always work out. I just don't see how Nick can stay in there, you gotta think he tries to get out of there with his child at some point.
The social commentary on American media was also fantastic.
Incredible film about the deterioration of relationships.
9/10.

I haven't read this whole thread, but how did she explain all of the blood on the floor in the kitchen???

Saw the movie today. What a great ride. I really had no idea what the story was about at all (wife read the book), which was also a plus. Pike was fantastic and the twists were great. I am not an Afleck fan, but he was ok. The ending was a bit of a surprise, but I was okay with it. The movie theater was so quiet on the exit.

Just got out. It was like Sleeping with the Enemy mixed with Talented Mr Ripley but better.
The ending was perfect and OMG the mistress titties.

Today after St. Louis' ballsy fake punt from their own 10, the NFL red zone guy says, "Now that was crazy. I'm talking like second half of Gone Girl crazy."
