Most people on this board think LSU has more talented players than other teams, but I believe
the talent level has been slowly declining every
year for the last several years.

Forget about star ratings. Look at what you see
on the field. DE, DT, MLB, QB, OL - all inferior
to previous years. DB pretty good, RB average.

I think the coaching staff does not do a very
good job of evaluating talent. Case in point -
Dak Prescott. Apparently Dan Mullen was a better
judge of Dak's potential than Miles.

Just about every starting position on this year's
team is an AVERAGE player - name one who stands
out. Maybe one or two of the DB's.

This is not to disparage the players. They are
what they are - they try hard but they are not
championship caliber. Jokes have been made about
LSU's decline but I think it started several
years ago in recruiting. Yesterday I counted
4 Louisiana boys playing major roles for Alabama,
3 for MSU and others around the conference. Now
I know we can't get all the home-grown kids but
too many are going elsewhere.

I live in Winnfield. To give you an example of
what I am talking about, last year LSU gave a
scholarship to DE Michael Patterson from WSHS.
He will never play a down at LSU. Too little
to play DE, can't play any other position.
This is the kind of boneheaded decision making that baffles me. Don't take a chance on Prescott
but waste a scholarship on Patterson? Come on.

I don't know that our talent level is declining. I think the other teams in our division are getting better recruits and those teams have better coaches now. We've had more guys drafted than any team over the last three years or so. Tyrann was a recruit that no other big school even considered because he wasn't that big, etc. He turned to be a record-breaking player.

Our coaching remains real conservative and we have young talent that can't dominate with a conservative game plan.

Miles just brought in the best class in school history. His previous best class weren't impact players until later in their freshman and redshirt freshman season and were being led by veteran guys, especially on defense. The freshman now are being plugged in before there ready, not to mention the lack of leadership this team has defensively and outside of Collins offensively. It's just a very difficult situation but this team is very talented and with better coaching they could be very good.

Talent level declining my arse! Any fool can look at LSU and see the school stays loaded with top talent which is why so many go to the pros. What you people won't admit and continue to ignore is the abysmal coaching these top recriuts get at LSU. This team was totally unprepared to play MSU something Mile's teams always suffer from along with poor displinarian lessons to them about committing bonehead fouls and penalties in games that always cost them at crucial times in the game.

And of course that lame arse offense he continues to run there by boasting "we are a power running team and will alwas be". Well, Les when these teams have clearly caught on to the fact now that you like to pound the ball. Therefore, they always have the box stacked now makes it damn hard for any top back no matter who you are to get decent yardage. Not to mention this OLine was overrated to begin with. This man needs to come out of the stone age and get with the rest of modern college football and let Cameron do his job like he was doing last season and run a sophiscated offense. This shite is getting old!

The NFL disagrees with...They seem to love the LSU guys. They must not be good at evaluating talent either

Talent is there, but other teams are catching up. College football is as competitive as it has ever been and there is a lot of parity right now.

Relax man this team is young and inexperienced. I don't think anyone on here truly believed this team would run the table. We simply got out coached and out played and made zero halftime adjustments. We came out flat and they were ready to beat our arse (which they did). Hopefully this was a wake up call cause we don't have any free wins left on the schedule (besides NMSU).

And his Michigan mentality probably contributed some to a missed opportunity to win the game at the end. The goal line stand by State was huge because Les thinks we can shove the ball in the endzone running 4 times up the middle with this so called best OL he has ever had. And that series was at thew 2 yd line. You think that wasn't a big boost fo State?

I agree with the OP. The talent in the trenches and linebacker core have definitely declined. Martin and Welter should never start on a "LSU DEFENSE".

The real question has only one obvious answer: Where does the buck stop? Anybody? Anybody?
