Just watched this documentary about the Nairobi mall attack. Pretty sickening and very well done documentary. Didn't realize it was only 4 guys that killed 61 people and the army helping them out by shooting a few police. Three and a half hours before police or military even went in. It took 7 guys, 2 civilians and 5 cops, to initially go in and save almost a couple hundred lives. We can bitch about a lot but that kind of ineptitude is very much less likely to happen here. Very good documentary worth an hour of your time.

I wonder how much more difficult it is to identify perpetrators in homogeneous societies.

Here, we can say black guy, white guy, mexican guy, asian guy whatever and perhaps narrow it down for law enforcement.

But when everybody looks roughly the same it must be tougher. I know in Africa they can identify the different tribes so maybe that's what they do.

Actually, this wasn't as homogeneous as you think. Plenty of white, black, and even asian. This was an area that attracted all sorts.

Ya, I know this was a foreigner heavy area, but it did make me think. Think of it this way, who is more likely to commit crimes in Kenya? Locals or foreigners of other racial background? I doubt the latter because they are probably there on business, work, diplomat, etc.

But it was more of a random thought then anything. I wouldn't want to be a cop in a place like that. I'd be interested to know how they refine their techniques in other way of profiling.

I'm sure they have pretty poor training too.

Pretty much except the military and police were just as inept. Hell, the military looted the mall afterwards.

Not shocking at all. They probably get paid less than the terrorists do. I'm gonna checks this out because it was wild.

You should. I could only wish to have the balls those 7 guys had to go in there.

Just watched it. Was pretty tough to at times.

I will say this, once the mall was cleared I'm all for the "high explosive shell" method the Kenya army employed.
