As the Braves have collapsed over the past few weeks, there has been growing reason to wonder about the futures of general manager Frank Wren and manager Fredi Gonzalez. The club has not dismissed a general manager or manager since 1990. But this could change within the next few days.

If the Braves opt to part ways with Wren, they will likely utilize assistant general manager John Coppolella as an interim general manager until hiring a permanent replacement.

There is reason to believe longtime baseball executive John Hart, who joined the organization last year, would help guide Coppolella and the other members of the baseball operations department through the transition. But because he enjoys his other responsibilities, namely serving as an analyst for MLB Network, Hart has indicated he is not interested in handling any full-time duties.

The Braves would look at all their options to fill the general manager's position. But the most intriguing candidate appears to be Royals general manager Dayton Moore, who learned his craft while working for Braves president John Schuerholz from 1996-2006. Schuerholz was the club's GM throughout that span.

Gonzalez has taken responsibility for the struggles the Braves have encountered during this disappointing season. But there seems to be a good chance he will be allowed a chance to remain in his role for one more season with an altered coaching staff. The club's offensive struggles have jeopardized the futures of hitting coach Greg Walker and assistant hitting coach Scott Fletcher.

Yeah, that report is not encouraging. I would fire Fredi before Wren and if they fire Wren I certainly don't want GMDM. Bring me Coppolella full-time.

Well even if they don't fire Gonzalez, you'd have to think if they fire the GM and replace him there's a good chance the new GM could clean house

They're going to fire Wren after the season. I would say within 3 days of the season ending, he's gone. Fredi will make it one more season while the new GM get's accustomed to the team and starts rebuilding the farm system first. Barring winning the world series or making it deep in the playoffs next season, Fredi will be gone shortly after next season. New coach going into new stadium in 2017. It's going to be a much different looking Braves team in the next few years.

They are doing the right thing in firing Wren first. Giving contracts to Derek Lowe, Kenshin Kawakami, Dan Uggla, BJ Upton, and Chris Johnson would get anyone fired years ago, but Wren is best friends with Schurholtz from their Oriole days. If it wasnt for our amazing scouting and development departments, we would be one of the worst teams in baseball.

Fredi should be gone. He is clueless when it comes to managing bullpens, and optimizing the lineup. I would be ok with him staying one more year, because he would be on the hot seat, and if he didnt make the playoffs, he knows he is gone. Id much rather go ahead and go out and get either Sandy Alomar Jr, Dave Martinez, or Jose Oquendo, but it is what it is.

My main problem is the rumors that we are going heavily at Dayton Moore, since he is a Braves guy. He is basically Frank Wren. The Royals have done a descent job of drafting, and developing players. Thats why they are in the playoff hunt, but when it comes to signing free agents or making trades, then Moore is on the Wren level. Many baseball insiders believe that we have the top GM candidate in house, John Coppolella. He is young, values sabr stats along with traditional scouting, and has worked for both the Yankees and Braves. So, of course he wont be an option.
