Had some bad weather recently and most of my electronic were fried.. Think the MB is shot, the power supply seems fine as the light on front of tower does turn on.

Is it possible that more needs to be replaced? I see no visible damage anywhere.. I do have a sound card installed.

Yes it is very possible.

You would need a repair specialist to look at it.

Can't just swap out the main board?

Yeah just order a main board. You can get one at your local radio shack. All PC's use the same one.

Does it POST? Like does it beep a few seconds after you hit the power button? Easiest way is to unhook everything from the mobo except for one stick of ram, clear the CMOS, hit the power button, and see if it POSTs. If there are no beeps, there is a good chance your board is done.

Does anything show up on your monitor? Are you hearing any beeps? Is this a brand name computer (Dell, HP, etc) or custom-built? What exactly happens when you hit the power button?

We need detailed answers to help you, and no you can't just go buy any MB and swap it out.

At no point did I say ANY motherboard.

Um it's a Dell, it powers up. The light turn on, but nothing shows up on my monitor

The problem is - it could be "anything", and it could be "almost everything" - at this point. It's possible all that's left is the power supply and power light indicator. That would all work pre-POST. The ROM could be dead. the CPU could be dead. Everything could be working except the video card.

That's the problem. Until you start doing some voltage tests (and I assume you don't feel qualified to do that) there no way to know without swapping things out.

And, have you tested the monitor with another source to make sure it is working?

How old a computer is this? If it is more than 2 or 3 years old, it is not worth swapping parts out - IMHO. Either buy/build a new one and try to bring your hard drive over to save your data.
