Lots of coverage every day = the best of times. I'm enjoying Gene Chizik, Spears and many others, and even Opey Taylor (McElroy) and the Minister (Tebow) are tolerable in their own way. (Why is Opey's 'articulateness so damn bothersome?). Anyway there is so much content, it feeds our football-loving system in a nice way. The SEC Now segment is thoroughly enjoyable, as are many of the other segments. The new personalities (SPears, Booger, McElroy, Tebow, etc...) have gone out of their way to be unbiased in their analysis, as they know they better to establish any credibility (other than some good-natured ribbing, which is being done very nicely).

Increasing Disney effect = the worse of times. They senstationalize everything, and the scheming to say things to incite controversy and/or excitement by various on-air personalities is so transparent is in not even funny. I can just hear the behind the scene posturing and joking "Let Herbstreit or Pollack take on that position, as the fans of fill-in-the-blank will get their panties in a wad even more". Disney stockholders are fed the best money-making potential when these staged positions are taken. Heck, sometimes it is genuine, but too often the new "sports game" makes is contrived, and it is so obvious it takes away credibility of the entire ESPN system - however, we all must recognize 2 big things here 1) Entertainment comes BEFORE sports in the acronym ESPN and 2) the vast majoroty of us own Disney stock in our 401k's

All in all, it is a great time to be an SEC fan, as the conference is very strong this year with its best balance in a while. It will be interesting to see if the network has a balancing effect since all of the teams will likely get their share of programming and attention, as opposed to before when it was predominantly the top 3-4 SEC programs that got it all.

Just an opinion. I'm sure will agree, and some will flame, and others will TL-DR it. Okie dokie on all counts and

Solid post.

I've tended to become increasingly unhappy with the nonstop coverage, as a constant cycle demands the sensationalizing you mention, and draws the focus more and more to entertainment rather than news. This is true in all media, unfortunately, not just sports.

Overall, I think it is very harmful to the way we prioritize and process information.

That said, from a purely sports fan perspective, I also think they've done a pretty good job covering all the programs equally. Much better than they do on ESPN.

Take away the LCD trash dump that is the Finebaum show, and the SECN has been a very pleasant surprise.

I have been particularly impressed by Gene Chizik as an analyst. He took a lot of heat as a coach, but the guy really seems like a good football mind who pretty much never gets into the hyperbole that so many of these guys do.

Palmer is always great, Tebow has been good, and I always love Tessitore, wish he was the regular host instead of Nowkah.

Seeing Hartung all of the place is certainly welcome as well, and the young black lady, cant remember her name, has also been very good imo.

I wasn't a huge fan of Spears at first, but he's calmed down and isn't that boisterous goofball as much lately which is nice. Hopefully he's settling into his new profession.

Booger has been pretty meh imo, but likeable and not over the top, and McElroy, aside from his creepy face is also relatively painless to listen to....as long as you don't look at his creepy face. He looks creepy.

This is right on point.

I can't even watch the pre-game shows anymore because I don't believe the broadcasters actually believe their own words. Lou Holtz is wearing a clowns nose everytime he debates Mark May because you just know that he is only playing a "role". All of those guys sit in pre-broadcast meetings and they decide "Okay, who's taking this side of the arugment, and who will take the other?"

It's basically professional wrestling as everything is scripted.

Please tell me you don't think this is a recent development.

Jfc it's been like that since the beginning. No one would watch a show where everyone has the same opinion.

Of course it is not new, but it is more accessible and amplified than ever before, hence the "worse of times" description. It surely was always in-play, only moreso now than ever.

ESPN is buying & bought most of college football. Their actions have caused many things like conference realignments such as A&M as a result of the Longhorn Network $ 300 mil. They control most of the game in the name of the dollar.

Their was a time ESPN reported "sports" news, but has degenerated to something similar to nothing more than a tabloid. For lack of "news", sensationalize a non-story & make it news. The M. Sam "embrace" ran over & over & over, for days - really? The Mike Leach story - really? Ego run amuck !

Was hoping that CBS & NBC would capitalize on this fiasco & offer a little competition, but thus far, that is merely wishful thinking.

So you like the "let's always have two sides to the argument no matter how ridiculous it sounds" entertainment?

I could really do without all of the commentary on social issues and current situations. It's supposed to be a sports network. What makes it much worse is that, like almost every other media outlet, ESPN has a decidedly left-leaning agenda.

I'm not talking about something like the Ray Rice situation, because that's sports related. They go way past that, though.

I like all of the former players and the role they play, of course tend to love Spears and McFarland best, but Tebow is very good. Only guy who is over his head completely is FINEBAUM.
He is hard to listen to and harder to look at he is completely like a fish out of water. If he is a awful analyst. He picks teams and players on his emotions and too much of a Bama homer to be objective. And his show and the locals are an embarrassment to the SEC Fans. He makes himself famous and rich due to the ignorance of the Bama/Auburn fanbase and laughs all the way to the bank. Can't they do better than him on Saturday Game Day, he is not a natural in any way a bad fit in every way.
