But the funds have had the same performance over 3 years. What else are you paying for?

It didn't seem to get all the fees from my IRA fund. It saw 1 fee over the past 90 days but seemed to miss the front load I pay every 30 days since I have monthly auto-deduct. I would like to see this amount with the fees accurate.

Very interesting site. It reinforces what I preach (which always makes something interesting ) about ETFs vs expensive mutal funds and advisors, but, I don't listen to my advise and own some mutual funds with my ETFs. The ETFs they picked all beat mine in the 1 yr return, which I don't even look at and seems to be their secondary criteria after fund category. All of my funds beat their target over 10 yrs (other than LYRIX which is only 1.5 yrs old), so their comparison doesn't work for me as I always want to see how a fund/etf performed in bear markets.

While I knew how even 1% expenses hammered you over the long term, putting it in a dollar perspective is staggering. Alternatively, if one's fund beats the ETFs after expenses, it doesn't matter what the expenses are.

my fund/theirs-- my return/theirs-- time
LYRIX/NYCC 16%/5% YTD(new etf)
BCSIX/VBK 13.8%/11.6% (10yr)
YAFFX/SCHX 15.29%/20.52% (their ETF only 3 yrs)
FSCRX/SCHA 23%/21% (their ETF only 3 yrs)
IJR/SCHA 21%/21% (their ETF only 3 yrs)

Thanks for the link. I think this is an excellent tool and will use it to further evaluate my positions.

Balance
Allocation
Someone to take your emotions out of it
Risk management

Most novice investors know nothing of those 4. Plus, how would you know which funds are the right ones for you to be in?
