VA removed Vet's gun ownership rights due to PTSD

Pulled from another forum. See paragraph 4 of the letter...

A few things...
a) the "review" took almost a year (it had obviously started prior to the November 20, 2013 letter);
b) it appears the "review" was after an initial determination for which the guy appealed, which means his gun ownership rights were suspended for some period prior to the November 2013 letter;
c) there is no indication of any actual hearing (only a determination based upon records from his doctor).
Seems to me there could be a due process issue here (considering we're talking about a constitutional right - as well as the fact that in all other instances, you need a COURT ORDER for such a determination [incompetency in handling personal affairs]).

isnt the rational behind no more gun control is to use the systems in place to keep crazies from guns?

Yes.
The problem here is that there seems to be some serious question as to how that determination is made.

*rationale
A diagnosis of PTSD and chronic pain was used to declare this vet incompetent. That's more than a little odd, IMO.

Slippery slope no doubt. Easy to see both sides of the argument.

PTSD today.
ADD/ADHD tomorrow.
Open your eyes people.
"What we decided for you..."
Seen many, many letters like that.

easy definition would be if someone claims PTSD to receive disability payments from the VA, they should automatically lose ownership rights.

Interesting. in the DSM IV, other similar disorders are listed as:
ADD
ADHD
Depression
etc...
They are going to make so that if you take ANY medication for a mood disorder, you will never own a gun.
BTW, isnt this the first salvo of the veteran;s Disarmament Act?

Should they all be declared incompetent?

If he has PTSD and they think he will snap, get him treatment and yes no guns. Stop putting guns in the hands of those who might blow away a second grade. Smart move and may save lives

Does any genius here know how the PTSD manifests? Maybe he runs around threatening people.

Tigah, that was my worry. It he is ready to snap, take the gun away and save his and others lives. Smart
