Right now, it is fair to say that Texas and Michigan are in the dumpster, while ND and the Volunteers are about to soar back to the spotlight. I know it is hard to predict, but which current successful powerhouse will be the next to catch the "down disease"?

How is Florida a "traditional power" if they didn't start playing football until 1990?

How did they suck sooooo hard for 100 years, yet they still have a winning record over "traditional powers" such as LSU, F$U, Tennessee, etc etc??

So confused.....

Tennessee will be better. But don't see them being in the picture any time soon.

Looked very good in first two games this year, and if it wasn't for two redzone turnovers, would have been down merely three AT Oklahoma.

Last year, Tennessee knocked off the gamecocks, and would have beaten Georgia if not for the fumble into the endzone during overtime.

Butch has the program trending in the right direction. Recruiting is good, and the on field coaching has improved.

Eh. They've had some good records lately but I can't help but think they get those wins against average-to-bad teams and then get pushed around when facing elite teams. ('Bama national title, LSU in Sugar, Ohio St in Fiesta) come to mind. Although they did have a marquee win vs the Spartans last season.

I can see it happening, but I really don't think it happens any time "soon" or next.

Horseshoes and hand grenades. Mike Shula almost won a bunch of games at Alabama, too. I'll be shocked if the Vols have a winning record this year.

what is considered a slump for a powerhouse program? LSU hasn't won a BCS bowl in the last 6 seasons.

From 2001-2007, LSU played and won BCS games in 4/7 seasons (including 2 titles). Since then they've played in (and lost) a BCS game in 1/6 seasons. For a program that was playing at an Elite level, I'd saying go on a 6 season BCS win dry spell is a bit of a slump.

LSU still has the recruits and depth right now. Their team is extremely young and have already won a ranked game. LSU's program is in fantastic shape. The emergence of A&M lately will have more of an impact on OU's and Texas's recruiting.
