How great could a 30 for 30 from someone not ESPN be?

30 for 30 is great imo and one of the few things espn does right anymore. But, ESPN, is a business with a lot of relationships with sports leagues that they can't afford to tarnish. Hard to fault espn from the perspective but...
There are so many stories that can't really be delved into deeper than the surface for ESPN.
I would love to see a 30 for 30 style show about the Ray Lewis murder investigation, the current NFL conduct policy and the seemingly ludicrous punishment policies, etc. just off the top of my head. What are some other potentially great documentaries you would love to see, sports-related, that espn would likely not ever touch?

I would certainly watch a documentary on how much of a joke espn has become.

Pony Excess and the one on the Manning's were excellence.
HBO could likely out together some high quality stuff

They were mostly good, but some of them have been heavy-handed in ESPN's favor.
Fab Five was just a vehicle for ESPN employee Jalen Rose to take credit for everything that happened in college basketball in the 90s.
The U was a just a vehicle for Dan LeBatard to promote his flawed and obviously biased mythology about a criminal program.

I enjoyed the two escobars, they have only had a few duds. I think the fact that their ESPN gets them into a lot of places and gets a lot of people to talk about things they normally wouldn't talk about.

Hbo has done a bunch of sports docs, a lot of them are very good.
The ESPN hate on here has gotten a bit stupid. Of course their day time tv sucks...all day time tv sucks

This isn't about an espn hatred. I stated I like the 30 for 30s. It's a reality that espn has to maintain good relations with NBA/NFL etc. They can't do very controversial things because of this, understandably so. But, as a fan it would be fun to see some of those stories

-HBO doing a documentary on Pete Rose and Michael Jordan's betting on games while they were playing/managing.
-Spygate and how the NFL covered it up
-"Pay to Play - Under the Table Money Trails in NCAA Football"
-"Professional Boxing - The Ultimate Reality TV Show Where Nothing is Real"
-"NFL's Dirt - How Much is Truly Covered Up and How the Media is Manipulated and Influenced to Manipulate"

You do realize that companies other than ESPN have made sports documentaries before, right?

Yeah, the one they did several years ago on the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry was incredible. I dislike both of those programs and the Big Ten in general, that was a great documentary.
It makes Roll Tide/War Eagle, which was terrible anyway, look like a high school book report.

It's cool to hate ESPN nowadays. All these guys think they're cool and edgy.

LOL....the first story they would never touch is the Ray Lewis murder investigation since Ray is now an ESPN employee.

Who did the "Beyond the Glory" shows a while back, those were pretty good

While it is cool to hate espn, apparently the new hip thing to hate is the nfl.
