It seems like the Saints shot themselves in the foot again with costly penalties, shaky coverage in the secondary and a HUGE pick six.

Can Ryan realistically shape this defense up? If not, Saints fans are in for a long season.

Here are some highlights from yesterday's game in case you want to relive the monstrosity.

First quarter.

Last Cleveland drive when we could have stopped them on a 4th.

They put Patrick Robinson on the field. Factually, had they taken him out after the first series there's a 10 point swing in the Saints favor

What everyone said but calling timeout on our last third down denied us the chance to run out the clock

It's Payton people. He consistently fails to recognize what works and what doesn't. He can't stop calling pass plays. The only time that Browns defense had success was when we passed. They could not stop us on the ground at all. He had the Cadet toss set up for an easy 1st and the idiot calls a timeout. Then calls his little pass play that goes nowhere. Just like in New England and Carolina last year. You have to know that the defense is unreliable and that 3 points are huge. You run what works, which should have been a run to gain positive yardage for a shorter field goal.

Trying to fake the defense into an offsides hasn't worked in years. No one believes we're actually going to do it anymore. We're going to have to pull the trigger on one of those plays if we actually want to goad a defense into jumping some day.

Re watched the game finally, and unfortunately.

A few things jumped out at me.

1. Play calling, Sean has got to be the worst OC a DC could have. He has no regard for game flow and the territory battle. By the time the o gets any tempo; the defense is dead tired.

2. Take what the defense fking gives you. "So youre gonna put 6 db's on the field? Gonna continuously give me 5 or 6 man boxes? IM THROWING IT EVERY DOWN, ILL SHOW YOU"

3. PA, its almost like the players on the field are even going wy even fake the run; they know it, we know it, all we do is pass. Drew had some of the worst sells I've seen in awhile in this game. When you don't bother even putting on the most amateurish of acting jobs; is a PA anything more than a wasted movement? Forget the fact that we are faking something more than we actually do it. I know they are one of the best teams in the league, but watch a seahawks game; they sell the PA so hard it confuses me sometimes. Drew and the HB don't even get within 4 yds of each other on some plays and hes faking a in the chest handoff.

4. Prob's Pass interference in the first Brown scoring drive is fricking horrendous. All I have to say.

5. Pass rush, we absolutely can't generate pass rush with our dline and it doesn't make sense to me. We weren't having this problem last yr with identical personnel. It also seems we have all or nothing blitzing mentality as well. When we blitz, we bring the house and hoyer literally threw it up 2 or 3 times without even looking at his target bc he knew no one was there.
