Jackson Browne may be up your alley. He's that folk rock stuff kind of like James Taylor. I'd even go as far as suggesting something like America

As for stuff similar to Clapton. You can't go wrong with Santana, Peter Frampton, or go deeper into the blues and just dive into Buddy Guy, BB King, etc. Usually when you like an artist, and you want to find similar stuff, look at who they cite as influences and seek out their stuff

Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Robert Johnson, JJ Cale, Taj Mahal - that is just the tip of the iceberg for blues greats. The more you delve into the blues, the more you find.

For more psychedelic/rocking stuff....Carlos Santana, early Allman Brothers Band, Joe Walsh and the James Gang, Frampton (I guess), Canned Heat, and of course check out the bands Clapton was in (Yardbirds, Cream, Blind Faith, and Derek & the Dominos)
