Ex-CIA director predicts 5,000 US personnel on ground by December

That's a lot of non boots.
Former CIA Director Gen. Michael Hayden on Sunday said he predicts there could be nearly 5,000 U.S. personnel on the ground overseas by the end of the year to fight the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
“In terms of intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, logistics, advice, command and control assistance, tactical air control parties, look I’m betting we’re up close 5,000 by the end of the year,” he said on “Fox News Sunday.”
“I think we will at some point. It might be through covert action rather than more overt activity,” he said. “I actually think we will end up with small American special operations forces active within this broad theater in Syria and Iraq.”
The most difficult plan to execute, Hayden said, will be training and arming the Free Syrian Army, or vetted moderate opposition groups in Syria.
The U.S. would be “starting from zero” to create a “substantial” combat power, said Hayden, who served as director of the CIA under President George W. Bush and director of the National Security Agency under Bush and President Bill Clinton.
“That is a result of an American policy not to help that group over the last few years,” he said.
Hayden said the U.S. military campaign to defeat ISIS will likely last three to five years even if it is successful.

I wonder if the peace crowd/pacifists will be proesting in the streets everyday like they did under GWB. Or will the networks do a running, daily body count of American casualties?
Will Soros pay for fake protestors?
Will the sorry azz scum Democrats call Obama a war criminal.
Scum party, scum people in party.

Does anyone else get frustrated at the ability of our leadership to define "victory" in these missions?
I think alot more people would be on board, or at least more comfortable with what we're doing if they came out and said here (whatever it is) are our defined objectives and we will not leave or draw down until that is absolutely accomplished.
But no, we just keep getting in these undefined fights that go on until the public turns against them and then it's over leaving a worse result than when we started.

Just out of curiosity, but has Obama said that there wouldn't be troops on the ground in regards to this situation
I know he said it during the Syrian conflict last year, but don't remember him claiming it during this ISIS mess...

Except - things were going fairly well at the end of 2008.
I know - I was there.

Obama has to do what he has to do. If it takes 5,000 on the ground to remedy what they know to be a threat (which I am still not convinced of as of today), then so be it.
That said, I hope the WH has the balls to call it what it is moving forward. Don't tell us you have 5,000 advisors on the ground, when in reality, those advisors are actually Green Berets, Rangers and MARSOC.
Tell us that we have 5,000 special forces and support personnel.

Possibly but you won't see a network news organization showing it on their evening broadcast. They showed Code Pink so often during the Bush years they had fans like the mousketeers.

I remember the daily body counts when Bush was in office. They ceased literally the day Obama took office. Absolutely pathetic on the part of the media. They used the death of American servicemen to affect the election. There was absolutely no other reason. I don't know how they look themselves in the mirror.
