Why did Mellencamp label his song Pink Houses?

But the song does have "pink houses" in the chorus

So I guess that's why he named it that. The theme of the song is more pink houses than ain't that America

As mentioned, "Pink Houses" is part of the chorus. He probably didn't realize how iconic the lyrics "Ain't That America" would become.

And "Ain't that America" is part of the chorus three times.

I mean, it's his song and he can name it whatever he wants, but I'd be a liar if I said I didn't share the OP's views that the song is not appropriately titled.

Same goes for the song that should have been name "Teenage Wasteland".

Musicians being all contrarian and shite.

"Baba O'Riley" was named so because it was originally part of an opera, and it is common for the numbers in operas to be titled the name of the character being introduced.
