What former big time sporting events have become an afterthought?

Tour de France

I always thought it was pretty irrelevant but at least I paid attention because of Lance Armstrong.

Agreed.

Used to be enormous, now it's getting out-rated by Seinfeld reruns.

MLB All-Star game. Getting rid of interleague play would pump up both the All-Star game and the world Series.

All bowl games that do not have a direct link to the national championship. Sure we may care about LSU playing Clemson in the Chic-Fil-A (Peach) Bowl or when LSU plays a team in the Sugar Bowl when it's not relevant to the national championship but the bowl games don't matter nationally anymore unless it's the title game and or a bowl game that leads to the title game.

That's pretty scary.

Really.

And we're talking about history. I guess a manufactured structure can make something out of nothing.

On it's own...it's own standing, it's own two legs. It was a joke the last 20 years.

It got lost in the shuffle with all the other bowls. It was left out of the BCS rotation and once new years day bowls were watered down it lost its luster. Not to mention an aging stadium and a morning start time.

Im glad to see it get a chance to come back considering history.

BCS didn't kill it.

It was dead far before that.

Cotton Bowl has been a joke my entire lifetime...back to the mid-80's.

It's heyday was the 60's/70's but died just like the Peach Bowl

From late 80's - early 90's on...it was...

1. Rose Bowl
2. Orange Bowl
3. Sugar Bowl
4. Fiesta Bowl
