No charges filed for killing an officer.

If it was a civilian, he would be charged with murder of a police officer.

That in itself is a load of bullshite.

It's a dog.

That said, if I get charged for it for shooting a dog that's trying to eat me, he should get it for locking it in his car and killing it.

ETA: I'd much rather see the law changed than this guy get charged.

When does a cop ever get in trouble for shooting a dog (regardless of a police dog)? That's a common man charge.

No charges due to lack of "criminal intent?" Since when did intent factor into criminal charges? There's plenty of "criminal negligence" here to warrant charges of animal abuse/neglect, unless that's some backwater jake-leg county that doesn't consider animal abuse worthy of a mention in their criminal statues.

Keep his arse as a bailiff and make him pay restitution to the agency for the lost value of the asset. If he resigns to avoid this, yank his LEO cert and blackball his arse.

HOW THE frick can you be a K9 officer and FORGET where your partner is?
