Car question - replacing suspension parts

So I've got a lot of miles on my vehicle and I think it's about time to change out some of the suspension parts. What all should I replace? Shocks, struts, what else?

ball joints, sway bar bushings, outer tie rods

Can all of this usually be bought in a kit? Just trying to get a ballpark on the cost of the parts.

Shocks and struts for sure. Depending on the car, the end link bushing and maybe even ball joints. Unless they come as part of your strut package. (not sure of car)
I also like to do my stabilizer bushings and Pittman arm and arm balance if applicable.
Generally anything designed to compress that isn't a spring or that has a universal or ball joint on it.
I DIY so if I do suspension I just do it all.
For the average person just changing struts and shocks (struts replace upper a-arm, not all vehicles have them) will help out.
If you drive in NOLA, then steering and alignment parts should be changed as well.

I was thinking this would probably be sufficient
I might have a mechanic take a look at it. I don't think it's urgent but it will probably need to be done sooner or later.

push down on each corner of your car. If it pops right back up, they are probably okay. If it springs, or takes a little but to pop back up they are bad.
Grab your front tires and see if you can pull or push them. Try it a few times and see if there is any movement. If there is that would show bad ball joints.
Is there any rattling from your suspension?
That could be bad end links.
When you turn your wheel, do the wheels turn right away or is there some play? (that would be the pittman arm, but usually only in RWD cars)

It would help just a tiny bit to know the make and model of the vehicle.

Not that I can tell. I'm noticing the car vibrates a little while on idle and it is making some squeaky noise that is annoying me, doesn't sound good.
I'm thinking that issue is that there is some misfiring going on at low RPMs so I'm changing out all the coils and plugs as soon as the parts come in.
The squeaking noise has me concerned that there is something related to the suspension going on. Maybe I'm overreacting and don't need to do anything with the suspension. The ride is still smooth. But I've got 174K miles and all the original suspension parts. I figure it can't hurt to change them but if they're still good I don't want ot just throw money at a guess either.

We driving a Beemer or a Carolla?

Probably struts and joints. Look at rockauto for your parts

I got quick struts for mine at it drives like new now. Quick struts have everything together and are pretty simple to replace yourself without having to compress springs.

Bimmer if we're talking cars. And if he is driving a Bimmer, replace everything.

Your going to want to start by doing this...
