Not that many places serve them.

This is just great. Does BR even have a shrimp cocktail?? Boil some shrimp and serve with a side of cocktail sauce.

I just want to go sit my butt down and have a glass of wine and shrimp cocktail. Just got some very good news. My mom, who was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer, is CANCERFREE!

Congrats

Honestly, you're better off snagging a table in the bar of Sammy's and ordering a pound of boiled shrimp with cocktail sauce.

"Shrimp cocktail" appetizers are not common, and usually overpriced.

Wow, congratulations! In that case, I would skip the shrimp and just have a celebratory cocktail, or several

Congrats to your mom and your family!!!

I don't know what the best is because I never order it, but Mansur's has the below and you could sit in the bar and have one after another with one after another glasses of wine.

Tchopitoulas Shrimp Cocktail
Colossal Gulf shrimp Cajun boiled & chilled, spicy cocktail sauce

While you're there, order a dozen chargrilled oysters, as well. Mansur's are great! That would be a fine celebratory meal!

Congrats on the good news lsugal. Lost my mom to the big C almost 20 years ago. I thought you were being lazy or worse yet a Yankee.

To answer your question, yes Mansur's is good.

You're not going to go wrong with boiled shrimp from anywhere.
It's boiled shrimp. If they screw that up, they don't deserve to be open

That said, Mansur's is one of the best restaurants in BR.

Gris is right: The chargrilled oysters will rock your world. AMAZING.

I always enjoy my meals there. I usually get chargrilled oysters and the visiting fish prepared in one of the several options or the redfish on cedar plank, which is very good. I love sitting in the bar. There are TVs, but the sound is muted. You can hear the piano player at night from there especially if you sit at the bar. The bar area is a nice space, comfortable with several types of table options. You can be more casual in there, though there isn't a dress code for the restaurant. I enjoy hanging out in the bar and just having drinks and lots of chargrilled oysters. I think it would fit your desires quite nicely.

ETA: And, I've seen the shrimp cocktail float by. The shrimp are nice and plump.

Can you really call it an oyster when it's drowning in butter and parmesan and sopped up with hot bread? ;)

Either way, I am sure it won't disappoint. Good people and good food over there.
