Oscar Pistorius has been found not guilty of murdering Reeva Steenkamp.
The stunning development was revealed as Judge Thokozile Masipa read her summation of the evidence Thursday in front of a packed courthouse in Pretoria, South Africa, and a worldwide television audience.
Masipa has yet to hand down her final decision, which will come Friday. She did reveal in the waning moments of Thursday's summation that she determined Pistorious to have been "negligent," which means he could still be found guilty of culpable homicide, a conviction that comes with a maximum of 15 years in prison but carries no mandatory jail sentence.
"He acted too hastily and used excessive force," Masipa said.
Pistorius also faces gun charges that carry potential prison sentences.
Wow!

Are there still lesser charges than pre-meditated? I assume the courts found him 'not guilty' of pre-meditated , but there are lesser charges & he will probably do time.

The thread in MSB mentioned a charge for a death along the lines of "negligent homicide" in the US which could get him 5 years over there.

She has the option of going with SA's version of manslaughter... up to 15 year sentence. If she goes with that she has the discretion to reduce the 15 as much as she wants... all the way down to no jail time at all.
BTW, why does the name Thokozile remind me of a pharmaceutical product?

It helps to be a national hero when it comes to stuff like this.

My extremely non expert opinion is this is fair. He somehow mistook her as a home invader and shot her through the door, definitely negligence, but I don't think he murdered her intentionally
