The Difference Between Google Wallet and Apple Pay

There's a lot of confusion in general regarding how NFC and NFC payments work and how Apple Pay compares to Google Wallet. Well, there's virtually no difference.
Here's a summary of what they both do:
- The both use NFC for mobile transaction.
- They both use a secure element.
- Google Wallet can work without a secure element, using Host Card Emulation.
- They both have an authentication interface (PIN, or fingerprint, or voice, or other biometric sensory input in the future).
- They both accept all the major banking, financial and credit card institutions in the USA. (Not sure if - Apple Pay accepts Discover Card)
- They both follow established mobile payment standards.
- Google Wallet will work where Apple Pay is accepted.
- Apple Pay will work where Google Wallet is accepted.
- You can use either at any PayPass terminal. Looks for the PayPass NFC logo to use mobile payments.
- They're both VERY SECURE.
Hopefully, this helps with some of the confusion.

ApplePay is different. It's so much better. It'll be what makes NFC the best thing in the world.

And there shouldn't be, if this is going to become the new way to pay they can't be very different. That's the entire point of giving up on BlueTooth/iBeacon and switching to NFC.

They're not giving up on iBeacons. It was never meant for payments. In fact, HomeKit relies heavily on iBeacon.

How did Google push their version of Apple Pay out so quickly. It being so rushed, I'm guessing it's buggy.

I didn't mean to imply that they were, but the presumption had been that they would have preferred to implement a payment system with BlueTooth since they had been avoiding adding NFC long after it became fairly standard in Android phones.

Does ApplePay collect and track your purchase history?

That's it? That's all you have to say?

Supported vendors is where they differ and where apple advanced the tech. Google wallet users should be thanking Apple.

Why are you android kids so fussy about apple now using a NFC pay system?
Its only going to make it more prevalent in stores, thus making Google Wallet more effective.
I swear, you people are so blind by your apple hate, you can't see the benefits to the collective system.

Apple didn't advance anything. These are just vendors that will begin accepting NFC which can be used by any device supporting NFC. I do agree, however, that google is happy apple finally jumped on board.

Does this mean you've realized you were wrong, so you've gone back to bashing Google's business model?

So these vendors just happen to start accepting NFC payments when the most popular device starts to support it. . . Yeah ok.

Most of those vendors have had NFC readers for a long time. I live in a podunk town, and my local McDonald's has had an NFC terminal for as long as I can remember.
