Didn't realize spiders could fly until today.

was disking up garden on tractor. look to my right. spider is cruising thru the air on a cobweb about 3 feet from me. thought its web was attached to tractor. stopped. spider kept on cruising past me.


spider was about 1 inch long. how is this possible?

They can fly whenever there is fear in the air. They ride it like a magic carpet.

this was a fairly large spider. seems to defy logic and gravity.

exactly. I thought the cobweb was somehow attached to the tractor and didn't want the thing crawling back towards me so I stopped. It kept floating thru the air. I watched it float into some trees at edge of garden. Never have seen this before. Kinda trippy.

I have actually seen this a couple of times in the marsh south of lake charles....kind of like a migration with thousands of spiders in the air all at once...the power lines looked like they had ice on them there were so many spiders and webs flying around...

the spiders were not nearly as big as what you are talking about, though....

I forget what spider it is but when a breeze gets going they disengage their web and ride the wind. Some are found out on carriers out at sea.
