LINK

Details are sketchy but it was a hot topic on local talk radio this AM. Apparently this was at an alternative school and upon asking a child (reports were it was a girl) not to do something the child gave him the old "frick you." Officer responds to child with "how would you like it if I disrespected you by calling you a "N?"

Should the officer be terminated by trying to teach an already degenerate child about respecting others?

He said it, he didn't use it.

ZERO tolerance.
He was wrong by thinking that word.

Sure he should be fired.

For the last time, law enforcement is held to a high standard, NOT the same standard as the general populace, that's why they have the right to discharge their guns to enforce the law, or, take you to jail.

If an old war vet had said it, would it be ok for the officer to disrespect him, cry see his family and his life, and hope he gets eaten up by maggots before he dies?

If he asked it like this after she dogged cuss him then no.
But common sense is no longer common.

I really thought I would be all for firing this guy but I actually don't think he was wrong in this instance.

I mean, he could have put her in cuffs and made things bad for her instead of just explaining to her how she should show respect.

The weirdest part of this story is that the kid was Asian.

Absolutely not. We've gone crazy over silly shite. We should not give words so much power.

Somewhat off topic but I grew up in Montgomery but you could not pay me to live there now.

He put the department in a tough spot.. The problem in the end circles back to the student and his actions fostering a society of blame and excuses..

Nope and I bet her phone is full of rap music using that word. If one can generate income from the word, then this guy shouldn't be fired for asking that question.
Seems to me he was trying to make this a teachable moment.

Good input on this guys. The talk show I was listening to has a black host. He was vehemently against the guy losing his job. The callers were mostly for it and most admitted they were black. The host kept calling them out on their hypocrisy of using the word and basically told them to grow a pair.

Probably shouldn't have been fired. Reprimanded, maybe.

Another excellent teaching opportunity blown.

That's true and that's why law enforcement makes the big bucks.

Agreed. He had an error in judgement. Let him sit out a few days, without pay, and probably re-assign him.

If he went back to that school, then every time he's involved in anything, some little punk will claim the cop called him a you-know-what.
