She changes directions based on some kind of fuzzy bullshite. I can make her change directions looking at it, but I can't explain why.

I can get her to switch by looking with the edge of my peripheral vision before focusing on it

Focusing on the foot shadow at the bottom does the trick for me.

I don't think so because it changed after different time periods for me. I couldn't really control it though. Looking away then looking back quickly seemed to work. I'm not sure though.

Stare at the bottom foot and shadow of that foot at the same time, and imagine it going the way you want. I can switch it almost at will now.
The wide arc of the leg is what throws your brain off. It's easy to switch if you focus on the relatively straight lines at the bottom.
