TV setup question

I don't know if this belongs here or OT or probably Tech board.
I am setting up a 42" Vizio LCD model E420-B1. It's hooked directly to comcast cable with no box. I set it up to run from direct coax outlet in menu. Every thing appears fine except the picture doesn't fill the screen. If I try to adjust screen size it zooms in but the border doesn't actually change. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

You should be fine here.
It has to be in the settings somewhere. Most TV remotes have the button where you can switch from Zoom, Stretch, Full, etc. but it seems like you've already tried that based on what you said.
Also, if you're running the cable through a device (like I run mine through my Xbox One, for example), you might also try the settings on those devices, as sometimes the ratio may need to be set on them as well.

Are you getting all the channels, and it's doing it on all of them?

Yes.
And it is hooked directly to the wall. I work at a nursing home and it's in the therapy gym with 2 other TVs. I hooked up (2) 40" Toshiba's the same way and didn't have to do anything special to format the picture to the screen.

I requested for it to be moved once I realized there was a tech board but it's still here.

Your TV may be set to 4:3 aspect ratio, rather than the widescreen 16:9. Look for that in settings as well.

need some help here.
hd signal coming from coax or are you just getting regular digital?
i thought most cable companies had 'fixed' it so you can't just use the built in QAM tuner to pick up digital stations.
you should be able to tell because the station should be something like '2.1' or '3.1'.
can you go to your 'display' menu in vizio and see what it says overlaid on the screen? you should something like '1080i' or '480i'.
in short, the poster above may be correct if you're trying to watch regular stations (non HD) because those will all be 4:3 (and leave black bars on your set) and at best, you can 'stretch' that to fill the screen but it will look weird.

It's the button labeled "Wide" on the remote. Bottom left button. That will change the aspect ratio of the TV.

Put a rabbit ears on it and view an over-the-air station, preferably one of the major networks that broadcasts in HD, and see if you still have the problem. That will isolate it to either the TV itself or the incoming cable signal.
