quote:

Egyptian President General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has reportedly offered Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas a Palestinian State, in Egypt’s Sinai, which would be five times bigger than anything Israel could offer them in negotiations.

The International Business Times reported today that even though he was offered 1,600 square kilometers of the Sinai Peninsula by al-Sisi, Abbas refused, proving that the Palestinian’s plight, which he represents, are more interested in replacing Israel rather than enjoying a warless state adjacent to their current borders.

As part of the offer to the Palestinian side, Abbas would relinquish their demands that Israel return to the 1967 borders and would, of course, be totally demilitarized. Also as part of the deal Palestinian cities in Judea and Samaria would have been autonomous and continued to be under Palestinian Authority control.

FFS, they've already got a Palestinian state much larger than Israel: Jordan.

Isn't the whole point of the dispute to be as close to the holy land stuff as possible? I am agnostic so I think it's all stupid as frick, but surely it's not as simple as just replacing square miles here...

I mean I'm pro Israel and all, but this seems kind of an unlikely resolution from what I know...

... and yeah I get the whole "wipe Israel off the map" angle from Palestine as well..

They won't take it. It wouldn't help them achieve their ultimate goal.

Prior to WWII, Jews were offered states in North America, South America, Africa, Russia and Asia, but Ben Gurion decided that he would rather fight the Arabs for a thousand years than live in peace.

Hey look! It's trackfan with a "they did it first" post. You're a little slow though. Should be in by the 3rd post on such an important topic.

Exactly! If it were that simple, European Holocaust survivors could have been given Bavaria to set up their Jewsish state, but then they wouldn't be living in the "Holy Land".

the west bank is 5,640 square km. So that quote is inaccurate.

the gaza strip is only 360 sq km. But negotiations have never been for only gaza.

Pro troll move by al-Sisi. "Hey, you know how those people who are bombing you are always talking about how their ancestors had to wander through harsh desert for 40 years before making it there? How about some harsh desert of your very own!"

Hint: Land doesn't mean shite without water. The entire Sinai supports less than 1/3rd of Gaza's current population. That's because Gaza sits on the edge of a coastal aquifer and the Sinai has a handful of wadis (which are already stressed) and a whole lot of nothing else.

Yes, I'll admit it. Unlike folks of your ilk, I categorically reject the Churchill ideology that White folks have a right to usurp non-White folks at their pleasure.

Though he's not Jewish, Likud should make an exception for Al-Sisi and give him party membership, because they couldn't ask for a better Likudnik.

He linked the Inquisitr rehashed article rather than the original International Business Times article. They are just trying to sensationalize it a little bit but kinda failed.

That won't matter to the Palestinians if they don't have soveignty over their territorial waters and airspace.

Fuel lines too, I would think. Desalination for several million Palestinians would be too energy-intensive to rely on trucking, and desalination plants don't run on smugness.

The original IBTimes article sources "IDF Radio." Which makes me more skeptical than usual.
