Russian Strategic Bombers Near Canada Practice Cruise Missile Strikes on US

quote:

Analysis of the flight indicated the aircraft were conducting practice runs to a pre-determined “launch box”—an optimum point for firing nuclear-armed cruise missiles at U.S. targets, said defense officials familiar with intelligence reports.

Disclosure of the nuclear bombing practice comes as a Russian general last week called for Moscow to change its doctrine to include preemptive nuclear strikes on the United States and NATO.

Gen. Yuri Yakubov, a senior Defense Ministry official, was quoted by the state-run Interfax news agency as saying that Russia’s 2010 military doctrine should be revised to identify the United States and the NATO alliance as enemies, and clearly outline the conditions for a preemptive nuclear strike against them.

Opps... Fixed (damn, y'all are fast!)

I remember drills in elementary school where we had to get on the floor under our desks.

Would be awesome if while they were running those practice flights, we ran practice flights with our USAF trailing them with locked-on targets the entire time...just so they know that if they ever tried that, they'd be shot down before they even knew what was happening.

I remember those. I also remember in 1988 arriving to my duty station in Fulda, Germany with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment and them telling me that when (not if) the Soviets invaded, we were sitting right in the middle of their main avenue of invasion and were expected to be dead within minutes of the initial attack. Thankfully that invasion that everyone knew was only a matter of time never happened.

I believe that was what our fighters use to do back in the old Cold War days. And they did it with live ordnance if I'm not mistaken.

I should have been alive for more of the Cold War.

Ideology warfare, worthy opponent, human intelligence >>> battling religious zealous in caves

Isn't that kinda almost what happened in Top Gun?

Anyway, I wish Russia would grow up a little and save it's energy for fighting Muslim threats

I'd rather kill religious nuts in caves than face an organized massive military threat. You're crazy if you'd rather have fought in WWII than fight Taliban

Those silly Russians, trying so hard to remain relevant in this world with their pre-1991 thinking.
