*** posted on the Tech Board but apparently this is too low tech for the geeks ***

ok so here's the deal. I am interested in seeing what I would need to do to set up a HD antenna at my camp.

I have posted the camp's approximate location and the related signal strengths below

Here is what I am working with. Our camp is completely sheet metal; the roof, all 4 walls, all sheet metal. Because of this I would assume that a normal indoor antenna from BestBuy would not work well.. right?

We do have an outdoor antenna similar to the one below but it is old... been there for a minimum of 15 years and likely much much longer.

is this antenna worth anything any more? Do I just need to find a digital converter box?

One last hurdle, we have an old style TV in the camp. A small tube style TV (mid-90's I guess), will this need to be upgraded too?

As you can tell I am completely ignorant on these things and would just like some guidance. I'd be nice to be able to catch LSU and Saints on CBS and Fox

Pretty sure you're going to have a hard time beating that thing.

I had a similar antenna at my camp, about 15 miles west of you camp for many years. Used to get Baton Rouge, Lafayette, New Orleans, Alexandria, and Jackson channels at different times depending on the weather and the height of the nearby trees. Mine was 25 ft up a pole.

For an older TV like that you will have to get a converter for the digital signal.

Then an antenna like this should work, I have one and its pretty good.

This one is only good for about 40 mile radius. So if you are farther than that you will need a bigger one.

This one is good for 100 miles, but its big.

we have one like that already, but will it pick up digital signal? I know it worked for analog years ago

Yes, don't get caught up in "HD antenna". The one I've had best luck with camping looks like this,

Just buy a converter first for the digital signal, that may be all you need.

Something like this, or just check wal mart or radio shack

I have one of these on a pole extending a few feet above the roof line. Gets great reception from the two closest TV markets. Picture is better than cable.

ETA: its connected to the TV with coax.

Do you have Direct TV or Dish at home. If you do you can order a extra box for your "RV" Camp. Then find and install a satellite dish antenna from that company at your camp.

This is what we used to do but the guy took the box back home. We do have Direct TV so I may look into doing that
