In WWI, the American pilots who joined the French Foreign Legion to fly wanted an insignia on their plane that would be an indication to everyone that they were American.
They chose an Indian Chief.
I suppose they are simply racists by today's "progressive" standards.

No, they had a black boxer in the squadron. I saw the movie. That guy from Pineapple express fell in love with the only girl at the whore house that wasn't a whore. She was just dropping some milk off when happened to crash right next to it.

in today's eyes, if they were white, then yes, of course their actions were racially motivated, they intentionally disparaged the red man, and their feelings were so remorseless that they were willing to put the symbol on the last thing they might ever been seen in alive, a war machine, as they were entering battle and prepared to die with this symbol on their airplane

Yes, that was racist as was this. Just because it happened 100 years ago doesn't mean it wasn't racist.
