What we can learn during tomorrow's game. (Long)

While there is little doubt LSU will win comfortably, there will be a few things to look for during Saturdays game. I know body bag games can seem to have no interest but LSU has much room for improvement from week one.


Defense

Defensive Line- LSU's defensive line did not play with much scheme and gap discipline particularly in the first half against Wisconsin. The system is much different for SHSU, but will still require LSU to play their assignments, due to the dual threat they face at QB. Depth will also be something to watch especially on the interior. The snaps Herron and Bain get will be very interesting.

Linebackers- the LB corp will go as the defensive line goes. If the D-Line plays as they should, you'll see LSU's linebackers flowing and scraping down the line of scrimmage making plays. It will be something to watch to see just how much playing time Beckwith will receive.

Secondary- the secondary played extremely well against Wisconsin and this week will be a chance to build on their success. Wisconsin did not show a strong passing attack but nevertheless LSU looked impressive. This week will be a new challenge to see if they remain fundamentally sound will a QB who likely will scramble quite a bit.


Offense

Quarterback- Anthony Jennings made some very clutch throws in the 2nd half last week. If he wants to continue to grow he needs to play well tomorrow. That's what good QB's do, come up clutch in the big moments and dominate the weaker competition. Brandon Harris will benefit from simply getting live reps. He struggled with his huddle presence and will have to develop a confidence and command. This however isn't abnormal considering his youth.

Tailback-Much like the linebackers will go as the D line does , the running backs will go as the O line goes. Expect a bigger does of Leonard Fournette as these reps will help him acclimate to the speed of college football, albeit against weaker competition. LSU really should have success running and I expect them to do exactly that.

Wide Receiver- the LSU WR's showed that even without Beckham and Landry, there is talent in Baton Rouge. Not only are players like Dural and Diarse serviceable, but they also have playmaking ability that will benefit LSU down the road. Much like the secondary, the WR's will be attempting to build on their success and gain more confidence as the SEC scheule approaches.

Offensive Line- the LSU line did not play well early against Wisconsin. Expect them to dominate up front against a pillow soft SHSU defense. It will be intriguing to watch how Pocic does with making the calls and how many assignments are blown (or hopefully not blown) tomorrow night. Jennings shouldn't be pressured and the running game should eclipse 200 yards. Anything less against a team this outmatched would be a reason for concern.
