Goods exported from Louisiana supported 282,540 jobs in 2013, and the New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Lake Charles metropolitan areas ranked among the country’s top 50 exporters.
All three of the state’s major port cities reported record exports in 2013 and are among 26 metro area reaching record export levels, according to the U.S. Commerce Department.
The New Orleans-Metairie-Kenner metro area ranked No. 8 with $30 billion in goods exports, an increase of 23.3 percent from a year ago. The New Orleans area accounted for 65 percent of the state’s merchandise exports and was one of 10 metropolitan areas nationally exceeding $25 billion in goods exports last year.
Meanwhile, Baton Rouge ranked No. 45, increasing exports 8 percent to $6.3 billion. Lake Charles ranked No. 49 after boosting exports by 19.2 percent to $5.7 billion.
Key merchandise export categories for Louisiana included petroleum and coal products; agricultural products; chemicals; food and kindred products; and machinery, except electrical. China, Mexico, Canada, Japan and Singapore were the leading destinations for Louisiana exports.
President Barack Obama launched the National Export Initiative in 2010. The program helps firms and farmers overcome the hurdles in entering new markets and also offers financing assistance.
The program has helped the United States generate four consecutive years of record exports, capped by 2013’s $2.3 trillion total, according to the Commerce Department. Export goods supported 11.3 million jobs nationwide.

Pretty impressive for an area this size.
Once all of these new facilities are complete in 10 years we may pass up Baton Rouge.

At least Lake Charles has a loop

Yea the interstate isn't an area of congestion concern. It's just roads like Nelson and Lake St or Hwy 14 coming into LC from Moss Bluff and Ragley.

i lol so hard at people who bitch about traffic here, too...or people who say we don't expand with any plans
before i was in high school they were expanding major SLC roads to 4/5 lanes. if this were BR, they'd be attempting that now
we're building a new downtown on/off ramp, too, and (while it's a pain in the arse right now) expanding a major cross road with a bridge in the middle of town
there is ONE major bottleneck, though. this little stretch of prien lake from lake st to nelson (prien/nelson is where you go to get to l'auberge, and where you will go to get to golden nugget). it gets bottlenecked to 2 lanes b/c there is a bridge. this cuts off the casino, BWW, target, ross, marshalls, BBb, etc. during xmas season, i avoid that area of town entirely

You have never tried to get from Moss Bluff to the interstate on 14 at 8 in the morning or back to Moss Bluff at 5 in the evening.

i've gone 171 up at 8am to get to your area of town. it's nothing like BR
and THAT isn't LC. you can blame the 30-40k people who refuse to incorporate and help the area
MB is like a BR subdivison: they only want so many ways to access it. there are 3: via westlake, via 171, and going all the way from 397 iirc

Imagine what they could do with a federal govt that is helpful rather than being in the way.
Hopefully it isn't all raw bulk goods. That would make us somebody else's third world exploitation area.

Well yea but it's still a PITA. I used to only schedule 9AM classes when I was going to McNeese because of it. They made it a little better with the recent construction but if you get there are the wrong time in the morning you just have to be prepared to wait. It doesn't help that there are like 10 lights in a row there.

They don't want to pay more taxes on those $60K postage stamp lots and McMansions they are already in over their heads on.

Is 397 the Lebleu settlement route? I take that way often back to Moss Bluff when I am coming back from Iowa or anything out East. Just not sure what hwy that is.
ETA: I just looked and the Lebleu Settlement route to Moss Bluff is Hwy 3059

i had to go out in the boonies a few months ago for a diaper party and i was blown away by how much development had gone on out there
legit 30k, possibly 40k people. if LC incorporated all of those areas, we'd be bumping laffy in population. that blows my mind

yeah me either, but that's almost how far the bluff has expanded east with those monster subdivisions

Your numbers are a little high don't you think? Moss Bluff has about 18-20K tops.

all the MB people i know say 30k. i'm using their #s

Yea I think this is more accurate. Now if you start throwing in Gillis and parts of Lebleu that touch Moss Bluff then you could reach 30K.

Right now in Moss Bluff, unless you are a developer prepared to buy lots in bulk of 10-12 at a time, good luck buying any lots at all. Individuals just pretty much have to accept that they are either going to live in a spec or pay 25% mark up on a lot just to get it.

Getting in and out of MB at "rush hour" is no big deal at all.
I know why they did it, but the nelson-i10 area is still a clusterfrick.
And they hugely fricked up the new ramp on Ryan, that thing has flooded twice already that I know of
